Fast Toyota cars from the ‘80s

The Toyota Corolla Mk V - AE86 was manufactured from the summer of 1983 to 1987. The small speedster “was made famous by Initial-D, a series depicting the rich and vibrant history of Japanese downhill racing. The 86 was able to overcome even Nissan GT-R skylines by virtue of its immensely light body and exemplary cornering capabilities,”
MotorBiscuit
notes.
The monster of a car was powered by a 1.8-liter hp inline-four 4A-GE that made it easy for drivers to maintain top-end power when entering and exiting corners at higher rev rates. Did we mention it caps out at 7600 rpm?
The Celica GT-Four was produced from 1986 to 1999. The forgotten gem had a 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder engine, with over 200 hp with a turbo.
According to MotorBiscuit, “The GT-Four was made famous in the 1995 WRX Rally series due to an ingenious design which effectively allowed them to cheat by bypassing the restrictor plate. They were banned from the final 1995 race and all of the 1996 races.”
In the 1994 range, the GT-Four is still one of the highest-performing vehicles. You may also remember other shining stars like the Mk IV twin-turbo Supra and the MR2 Turbo. And this GT-Four continues to impress by reaching 60 mpg in only 6.3 seconds.
