The Dyrt’s
2022 Camping Report
found that one in five Americans went camping in 2021, and for over 8 million, it was their first time. While spending time with family and friends was the most-cited reason for this venture into the unknown, 19% of first-time campers said they wanted to spend time outdoors. With bookings rocketing after a year spent inside, it’s no wonder that campers gravitated towards dispersed camping in 2021. That means camping outside of designated campsites, without the amenities and services you might associate with more traditional campsites. It seems like campers are okay with roughing it a little: only 43% of campers looked for campgrounds with toilets, and just 33% worried about having shower facilities on site.
