According to the 2022 Camping Report from camping app The Dyrt, camping is more popular—and more competitive—than ever. Nearly half of the 66 million Americans who went camping in 2021 reported difficulty finding an open site.
8.3 million Americans went camping for the first time in 2021
With bookings rocketing after a year spent inside, it’s no wonder that campers gravitated towards dispersed camping in 2021. That means camping outside of designated campsites, without the amenities and services you might associate with more traditional campsites. It seems like campers are okay with roughing it a little: only 43% of campers looked for campgrounds with toilets, and just 33% worried about having shower facilities on site.
But dispersed camping isn’t for everyone. That’s why The Dyrt created the first-ever awards for US glampsites—the campgrounds that bring a little glamor to the outdoors lifestyle.
