So you can imagine how this last group felt when a piece of history was up for sale, a 1992 Airstream trailer, not only owned by a celebrity but one of Hollywood’s most famous actors.

Airstream trailers are already renowned by collectors, but this one has a long history that gives it an extra flavor.
Tom Hanks purchased the Airstream Model 34 Limited Excella in 1993 when he was unsatisfied with the trailers on movie sets. Because of this, Hanks's Airstream has been on sets of some of his most famous movies.
Reminders of the trailer's Hollywood history are all over the Airstream. Hanks put stickers on the windows to show which movies the trailer had been a part of. Inside, there are other mementos, such as a FedEx sticker in honor of his character in the movie Castaway and military emblems for his role in Saving Private Ryan.
Hanks has added amenities like air conditioning and an espresso maker over the years to make the trailer as comfortable as possible. Because of these amenities, the trailer is practical on top of being a collector’s piece.

The Airstream was not the only vehicle Hanks sold at the auction. Most of the other vehicles from the "Tom Hanks Collection" turned heads as well.
For classic car enthusiasts, Tom Hanks's customized Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser was up for auction. These Toyota SUVs have a long history of durability and fun handling.
As for newer vehicles, Tom Hanks' 2015 Tesla Model S was up for auction. Additionally, the Ford F-450 Super Duty used to pull the Airstream trailer was also available.
The Tom Hanks Collection sold for high prices
When the Airstream and other vehicles hit the auction floor, they sold for expectedly high prices. The trailer sold for $235,200, and the F-450 that has previously carried the trailer sold for $84,000. The Tesla Model S, which has a customized paint scheme sold for $67,200.
While these prices are high, they may not necessarily reflect the standard values of their respective models.
Rather, these particular vehicles caught the prices that they did because of their connection to Tom Hanks. The actor's autographs and mementos throughout the vehicles give them value that they may not have otherwise.
For fans of both Tom Hanks and specialty vehicles, though, this auction offered a chance to grab unique pieces of movie history. The Airstream trailer had accompanied Hanks to 18 movie shoots over the decades, and now a new owner will get to enjoy it.
The Toyota FJ40 had been a favorite of Tom Hanks, and now a new owner can appreciate it as well.
