What is Blink?

Blink was awarded a grant totaling $12.5 million from Florida's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). As the push to combat climate change continues, lawmakers are investing more in companies like Blink. According to
CNBC
, electric cars will only produce 50 grams of CO2 per mile by 2050. By comparison, gas combustion engines produce 275 grams of CO2 per mile. As we continue to see the effects of climate change, it’ll be important to build charging infrastructure that can withstand Florida's hectic hurricane season. Florida's DEP plans to install $16 million worth of EV chargers across the state, most of which will be owned by Blink.
What types of charging stations will be available?
Typically, Blink delivers Level 2 charging stations, which offer 65 miles of charge per hour. However, the new charging stations will all be DC fast chargers capable of 178 miles of charge in one hour. DC charging is much more expensive than regular charging, but it's more convenient for road trips and other long commutes.
A total of 52 fast-charging stations will be built, which can be accessed by any EV. Even Tesla drivers can use them, provided they have a Tesla power adapter onboard. 23 of these stations will have solar canopies and modular battery storage. This reduces electricity usage and saves even more energy.
Where will the new EV chargers be installed?
DEP's proposed network of chargers will be built along Florida's four main interstates: Routes 4, 10, 75, and 95. Each location will have two fast chargers. You can find these chargers in Broward County, Palm Beach County, and Miami-Dade County in South Florida.
