Taylor Swift fans are a loyal bunch. No detail of a lyric or photo goes unscrutinized. So for the informed, it’s no surprise that questions began popping up about the car on the cover of her new album Red (Taylor’s Version), a rerelease of 2012’s Red, online within a week of the album dropping.
Little is known about the

, but fan-blog on
TaylorSwiftStyle.com
managed to identify the make and model as a 1932 Chevrolet Cabriolet. What is the history behind this car and just how rare is it?

More about the classic Chevy convertible on Taylor Swift’s new album cover

Any car buff will know that a Cabriolet isn’t exactly a model—it’s a type. A wide variety of automakers have used the term to refer to their convertible trims, from Ford to
Volkswagen
. The same was true of Chevy in 1932.
The car on the cover of RED (Taylor’s Version) is actually a Series BA Confederate. Chevy offered the car in 14 variations at the time, but the Cabriolet was one of only four Deluxe options. Its album-name-matching hue was one of 13 original colors.
The blog from Taylor Swift Style even mentions that this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this specific car. Apparently, the infamous 1932 Chevy Cabriolet was also used in videos and photos around the release of her evermore album.
How Stuff Works
says the car is powered by a six-cylinder engine and had a three-speed manual transmission.
Released during the Great Depression, its production was limited to 323,100, a significant drop from its predecessor, the Series AE Independence, of which Chevy made over 600,000.

Fans already know she loves her cars

Whether Taylor Swift actually owns the car on her new album cover remains a mystery, but the star’s interest in cars is well documented.
She regularly references classic cars in her songs and shows them off in music videos, but when it comes to filling her own garage, Swift seems to prefer modern luxury models over restored oldies like the red Chevy Confederate.
Besides the entourage-transporting vans and SUVs, Swift owns some impressive German-made sports cars. Highlights of her collection include her Audi R8, her Porsche 911 Turbo, and her Mercedes Maybach S560.

MORE: Buying Car Insurance Isn't as Easy for Some Celebrities
A lot of people scoff at rich and successful celebrities like Taylor Swift for spending so much money on expensive cars, but the lavish hobby isn’t as frivolous as it may seem.
High-performance vehicles with low production numbers like some of the cars in Taylor Swift’s collection tend to increase in value as they grow older. As long as she doesn’t drive them too much and takes good care of them, these cars could become profitable investments.
If she wants to get serious about car collecting though, Swift could do better by shifting her focus to older models, like the red convertible found on the cover of Red (Taylor’s Version). While her current collection includes some rare and impressive machines, most are too new to be eligible for classic car coverage.
