natural disasters
are not a new threat, and most of us have some kind of homeowners and flood insurance.

Read on to learn which type of
car insurance

Hurricane season is never something to take lightly.

Hurricane season is far from over

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released a mid-season update, warning that the east coast hurricane season is not done yet.
As quoted by
Insurance Journal
, Rick Spinrad, Ph.D., explains "the Atlantic 2021 hurricane season does not show any signs of relenting as it enters the peak months ahead."
NOAA estimates there is a 65% chance that the remainder of the hurricane season will see above active activity, with 15-21 named storms. Up to 10 of these could be classed as hurricanes, and up to five could be major hurricanes.
If the experts are right, strong winds, lashing rain, and even hail storms are to be expected over the next three months.
There isn’t much that east coast residents can do about this, other than make sure you have emergency supplies, an evacuation plan, and the right home and car insurance coverage in place.

What car insurance covers hurricane damage?

Hurricane damage, like damage resulting from other acts of god, is covered by comprehensive insurance.
Comprehensive will kick in if debris falls on your car, damaging the body or windshield. It will also cover you in the event of flood damage.
If you drive frequently, you should also look into collision insurance. Hurricane season means frequent, severe rainstorms, which make driving dangerous.
Without collision, you are not covered if you lose control and get into a traffic accident, even if bad weather is a factor.

When to buy insurance for hurricane damage

Most insurance companies monitor forecasts from the National Hurricane Center, and if a storm warning is issued, they suspend issuing new policies (or increasing coverage to existing policies) for those who reside within the projected hurricane area.
As a result, you can’t afford to wait until the last minute to add comprehensive or collision insurance to your existing policy. Hurricane season is already here, so improve your car insurance coverage now!
