has a huge lineup of cars, trucks, SUVs, and crossovers in 2022, offering an unparalleled range of choice to customers. But what is the best Chevrolet model overall?
It’s hard to believe that the Bolt EV, the sporty Corvette, and the giant Silverado 3500 are all made by the same company, but Chevy is competing in every segment of the auto industry.
With this in mind, Consumer Reports’ decision to score the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse higher than any other Chevy model has raised a few eyebrows. After all, the midsize SUV didn’t receive much fanfare when it entered production in October.
What makes the 2022 Traverse the best Chevrolet model?
The 2022 Chevy Traverse received an overall score of 83/100 from
(CR). Reviewers were particularly impressed with the Traverse’s driveability, with the 2022 model scoring a very impressive 95/100 on its road test.
The reviewers gave it 4 out of 5 for both acceleration and transmission, and a perfect 5/5 for braking. They praised the 3.6-liter V6 engine for being smooth and responsive.
As you would expect for a modern SUV, the Chevy Traverse scored well for ride comfort, and drivers appreciate its easy-to-use infotainment system.
While the 2022 model doesn’t have particularly good fuel economy (an estimated 20 mpg), it is better than many other similarly-sized vehicles.
One of the few downsides to the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse, is that its advanced safety features are only available on the top trims. Higher scoring mid-size SUVs—like the 2022 Hyundai Palisade—do not limit their safety features in this way.
The Chevy scores 3 out of 5 for predicted reliability, and about average for customer satisfaction, with 67% of owners saying they would definitely purchase that same vehicle again.
Overall, the Traverse received a score of 83/100, making it the highest scoring American brand in its class, and the best Chevrolet model that Consumer Reports has tested this year.

The Traverse receiving the highest rating of all 2022 Chevy models is noteworthy, but the competition isn’t very strong.
Of all the other 2022 Chevrolets models rated so far by Consumer Reports, only the Blazer (82/100) and TrailBlazer (76/100) have good scores.
The hotly anticipated 2022 Chevy Bolt EV gets a disappointing 62/100, and the larger vehicles in Chevrolet’s latest lineup fare even worse.
The Colorado and Silverado 1500, Chevy’s most popular pickups, receive 45 and 46 respectively, while the Tahoe, a large SUV, can only muster 39.
It’s not all bad news though. While Consumer Reports is a respected industry voice, Chevy has a loyal fan base across the U.S., and sales are predicted to be strong next year. So even if the best Chevrolet model isn’t blowing anyone out of the water this year, the company is in good shape moving forward.
