There is a vibrant history between the Chevy Impala and West Coast hip-hop. Popular '90s rappers like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube have all cruised in the classic car at some point in their careers.
According to HotCars, Ice Cube owns an impressive 1963 Chevy Impala, a status symbol thanks to its high value and unique looks. An update to the original Impala released five years earlier, this best-selling beauty took the market by storm. Here is what makes Ice Cube's 1963 Impala so iconic.

The Chevy Impala was once one of Chevy’s best-selling vehicles.
According to HotCars, the 1963 Chevy Impala represented something new for the car industry, with appealing aesthetic features like aluminum rear taillights, a boxy frame, clean lines, and pointed fenders. Ice Cube’s Impala was a rare gold two-door convertible SS trim.
The Impala’s long chassis and full-size seating setup were also new to the field. The muscle car was more than five meters long and two meters wide, and while most convertibles of the time could only fit a driver and passenger, the 1963 Impala seated six. To boot, it offered generous legroom for all.
The car’s extended chassis gave Ice Cube the convenience of a conventional sedan with the luxury and style of a convertible for his music videos.
HotCars explained that updates like air conditioning and a new instrument panel and tachometer only increased the Impala’s appeal to buyers.
Leather upholstery decked out the inside and wood trims, high chrome finishes, and contemporary door panels rounded out the design accents.

Supercar performance from Ice Cube’s 1963 Chevy Impala

HotCars noted there were two engine options available for the rear-wheeled 1963 Impala: a 4,600cc V8 producing 230 brake horsepower (bhp) and a 5,400cc V8 producing 407 bhp.
A four-speed automatic transmission accompanied the 5.4-liter, and three-speed and four-speed manual transmissions were optional.
Though the overall feel of the Impala is very different from an Italian sports car, HotCars reckoned its performance could take on that of a Ferrari.
Considering its combination of power and attractive styling, it’s no surprise that the Impala was a best-seller for Chevrolet.

How much does Ice Cube's car cost?

Naturally, pricing for the 1963 Impala varied based on your chosen trim level, but you could expect to pay between $22,00 and $27,000 for it, new. Out of the available convertible, sedan, and station wagon options, Ice Cube’s two-door convertible would have been priced on the higher end.
Nearly 60 years later, the classic Impala has retained its value very well, going for more than $25,000. Sadly, production of this iconic American muscle car ceased in 2020, according to Car and Driver, signaling the end of an era.
But, there are plenty of classic Impalas out there if you want to cruise in style like Ice Cube. If you do decide to purchase one, consider getting special classic car insurance for it.
