How Jackson County property taxes are determined

Your property’s assessed value in Jackson County will be determined based on either its
real market value (RMV) or the maximum assessed value (MAV)
, whichever is less. 
RMV is the value a buyer would presumably pay for your home on January 1 of the year. MAV is what was established in 1997, or what was established by certain law events, then grows by 3% each year.

How to pay property taxes in Jackson County 

Annual property taxes in Jackson County are due in thirds by three deadlines throughout the year: November 15, February 15, and May 15. However, if you pay the full amount due for the year by November 15, you can qualify for a 3% discount. Paying two-thirds by November 15 can get you a 2% discount, and your final third will be due May 15.
Due dates that fall on weekends or holidays roll to the next business day.
Jackson County residents have a number of options when it comes to
paying property taxes
. You can pay in person, online, by phone, by mail, or your mortgage’s escrow account may take care of it for you. 
  • Online: To pay property taxes online, you can use a credit or debit card, an e-check, or online bill pay through your banking institution. Cards and electronic checks will be subject to fees.
  • By phone: Taxes can only be paid via credit or debit card over the phone and are still subject to fees. To make a payment by phone, call 1-866-518-2306. You’ll want to be ready to reference your property tax account number, which you can find on your statement.
  • By mail: Make checks out to “Jackson County Taxation” and mail them to Jackson County Taxation, PO Box 1569, Medford, OR 97501. The payment should be postmarked on or before the due date.
  • In person: You can pay in person at the taxation office during business hours, which is located on the first floor of the Jackson County Courthouse Annex, located at 10 S. Oakdale Ave. in Medford. (If you’re paying with a card, it’ll still be subject to a fee.) You can also use the drop box next to the annex, which is open 24/7.
  • Through your mortgage: Jackson County will send tax information to your mortgage lender if you’ve chosen to include your property taxes in your monthly mortgage payment. Check with your lender and the taxation office to verify it’s been properly set up.
