How big is the gas tank on a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The 2020 Grand Cherokee’s gas tank is a lot larger than average, which is probably a good thing. After all, you don’t want to run out of gas when you’re off-roading in the middle of nowhere.
There are three engine sizes on offer for the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee: a 293-horsepower 3.6-liter six-cylinder, a 475-horsepower 6.4-liter V8, and a 707-horsepower 6.2-liter V8. But, no matter what you’ve got under the hood, your Grand Cherokee will sport a 24.6-gallon gas tank.

How to check your 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s gas tank size

If you don’t want to take our word for it, there are a few ways that you can verify your Grand Cherokee’s gas tank size for yourself.

Measure the gas tank

The first is by using a good old-fashioned tape measure. Find the width, length, and height of your gas tank in inches and multiply those three numbers together. Then divide the result by 231—the number of cubic inches in a gallon—and you’ve got your gas tank’s capacity in gallons.
Here’s an example: if your gas tank measures 12 inches in height, 14 inches in width, and 36 (12”x14”x36”) in length, your total gas tank is 6048 cubic inches. Divide that by 231 and you’ll find that your gas tank holds 26.18 gallons.

Check your owner’s manual

The fastest and most reliable way to find out your vehicle’s gas capacity is to look it up in your owner’s manual. Look for headings like “fuel capacity” or “fuel tank” in the index or table of contents.

Drive till empty, then fill it up

If you’re into taking risks, you can get a good idea of how much your gas tank holds by just driving until your gas gauge indicator is on “E” before filling up your tank. It won’t be super precise, but you’ll get a pretty good estimate of how many gallons of gas your tank holds based on how many gallons you pay for when you fill your tank.
Just be careful not to drive until you run completely out of fuel. Running out of gas will cause your engine to stall, making it difficult to steer and brake. A stalled engine can be very dangerous, particularly if you are negotiating difficult terrain or if you are driving at high speeds.

How to save on fuel costs in a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The fuel efficiency of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee varies based on which engine you have under the hood. The 3.6-liter V6 models are rated at a combined 21 miles per gallon, while the 6.4 and 6.2-liter V8s have a combined mpg of 15 and 13 respectively.
But, there are some things you can do to stretch your gas mileage as far as it will go. Here are a few ways to save on fuel:
  • Keep your vehicle in good repair. Loss of fuel efficiency is a sign that it may be time for an oil change. Adhering to your vehicle’s
    regular maintenance schedule
, including regular oil changes, can go a long way to saving you money.
  • Don’t floor it. Accelerating quickly burns fuel faster than gradual acceleration. If you back off the gas pedal a bit, you might just save yourself a couple of bucks.
  • Stop warming up your car in the winter. Letting the inside of your car warm up in the wintertime is a huge waste of gas. Instead, try letting your car’s interior warm up as you drive. A few minutes of discomfort could save you a few hundred dollars in gas each year.
