How big is the gas tank on a 2018 Honda Civic?

Honda Civics don’t demand much gas like their bigger SUV sibling, the
CR-V
. The compact 2018 Honda Civic carries a 12.4-gallon (or 47-liter) gas tank on all trim levels.
Here are all the trim levels of the Honda Civic with 12.4 gallons:

How to check your 2018 Honda Civic’s gas tank size

Want to be doubly sure of your Civic’s gas tank size? Here are three methods you can try to check how big your tank size is:

Measure the gas tank

We’re going do-it-yourself with this method! Find a measuring tape and calculator because we’ll have to do a little math (don’t worry, all you have to do is punch in the numbers!). Measure your fuel tank’s length, width, and height and multiply these three numbers to get your volume. Now divide it by 231 (that’s how many cubic inches are in a gallon)and you have your tank size in gallons.

Check your owner’s manual

Have a dig around your glove compartment and fish out your handy-dandy owner’s manual. Scan the table of contents for “fuel tank capacity” or similar terms to get your answer.

Drive till empty, then fill it up

Couldn’t do the previous methods? No worries—here’s one more way to get your fuel tank capacity! It’s simple: drive until your fuel indicator hits “E” and zoom on over to the gas station. Pump in some gas and take a look at the number of gallons you’ve added. You’ll have a rough estimate of your fuel tank capacity!

How to save on fuel costs in a Honda Civic

While Honda has streamlined their gas capacity on all trim levels, the same can’t be said for the Civic’s fuel economy. Due to the different engines, you’re looking at a combined fuel economy that ranges from 25-36 mph city/highway. Taking the 25 mph fuel economy goes to the sporty Type R. In contrast, the simple 1.5-L Honda Civic is the most efficient.
The Civic may rank average on fuel economy, but you don’t have to keep it that way! Here are a few more things you can do to save on both money and gas:
  • Get your car regularly checked. By following your maintenance schedule, you’ll catch the small issues quickly—and problems with your engine can ruin your fuel economy.
  • Drive cautiously. It should go without saying, but sometimes we need a little reminder! Ease up on the gas pedal and avoid rocky obstacles to keep your car from burning extra fuel.
  • Refrain from idling. Cold mornings can be rough, but if you can help it, simply drive your car to gradually warm up both the engine and cabin. It’s a small change that can save you big during the chillier seasons.
