background
We've seen some legitimately outrageous gas prices lately, which has led to an increased demand for hybrid vehicles.
While hybrid vehicles often have pricier insurance plans, the difference is negligible compared to your potential yearly fuel savings.
Toyota
currently offers ten hybrid models for 2022, from small sedans to one hulking minivan.
One of Toyota's biggest rivals, Honda, only has three hybrids available. Is this a case of quality over quantity? Let's look at some of the best options from these two automakers and find out.

The perks of owning Toyota hybrid cars

If you're looking for a hybrid sedan, both the Toyota Camry and Corolla Hybrid are great options. The Corolla Hybrid is the cheapest, starting at $24,050. It earns an excellent 52/53 mpg city/highway, but the engine has just 121 horsepower on tap.
The Toyota Camry Hybrid is faster with 208 horsepower available, and it earns up to 51/53 mpg city/highway. The base trim has a suggested MSRP of $27,980.
The popular Toyota RAV4 has both a conventional hybrid and PHEV version available. The RAV4 hybrid boasts a powerful engine, a luxurious interior, and a fuel economy rating of 41/38 mpg city/highway. The Toyota RAV4 PHEV can drive for 42 miles on electric power alone.
While the hybrid Sienna minivan has less horsepower than many of its rivals, it makes an impressive 36 mpg combined city/highway. It also offers an abundance of passenger and cargo space.
Toyota's first hybrid, the Prius, is still going strong for 2022. It may not offer exceptional performance, and many people aren't fans of its appearance. Still, 58/53 mpg city/highway is one of the most competitive fuel economy ratings for the segment.

What about the Honda hybrid cars?

U.S. News
actually placed the Honda Accord Hybrid one step ahead of the Camry Hybrid. It has slightly more horsepower than its Toyota rival, at the cost of a few fuel economy points. Still, the Honda Accord reportedly has the sportiest ride and more interior refinements.
The Honda CR-V Hybrid is more expensive than the Toyota RAV4, starting at $32,010. The RAV4 has the best gas mileage of the two, but
CarMax
says the CR-V Hybrid offers the coziest ride.

Toyota hybrid cars vs. Honda hybrid cars: which ones are better?

Toyota is clearly the winner when it comes to variety, and its hybrid models are generally more affordable. However, even the most powerful Toyota hybrids have subpar handling compared to similar Honda cars.
Every Honda hybrid is a little less efficient than its Toyota counterpart. The only exception is the Honda Insight, which saves a little more gas on the highway compared to the Prius.
Most hybrids from Honda and Toyota usually receive an abundance of praise from critics. These are also two of the most reliable automakers, so it's hard to go wrong with a car from either one.
