Avon is a small Ohio town in the Cleveland metropolitan area, and it’s making news though for a local Chevy dealership. While the dealership sells both used and new Chevy vehicles, like the overlooked Traverse, it now has a notable and recognizable owner.
According to Cleveland.com, actor Mark Wahlberg has purchased the Chevy dealership. Fans of Wahlberg already know he is a car enthusiast, and this is not his first dealership.
Avon, Ohio’s Chevy dealership
Mark Wahlberg is most well-known for starring in movies like The Italian Job and The Fighter. Before getting into film, Wahlberg led the early 1990s hip hop group, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
In addition to his successful career in entertainment, he also has found success in outside business ventures. One venture he has been particularly interested in has been auto dealerships, which is why he was drawn to Avon.
The Ohio Chevy dealership that he purchased was built in 2013 and was previously known as "Joe Firment Chevrolet". With its Hollywood owner, it will now carry the recognizable name of "Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet".
To celebrate the dealership’s new owner, there was a grand opening event that even had a food truck from Wahlburgers (a chain owned by Mark Wahlberg and his brothers).
Both Chevy and Wahlberg fans got to see the rebranded dealership and its vehicle selection.
Mark Wahlberg said that he has always wanted to be in the car business, and the dealership in Avon, Ohio isn't the first that he has purchased. Wahlberg and his business partner Jay Feldman now own a total of five dealerships in the state.
Before purchasing the Avon location, Wahlberg and Feldman owned Chevy dealerships in Worthington and Columbus, Ohio.
Wahlberg has stated that he enjoys being in Ohio and the Midwest as a whole to get away from the bustle of Hollywood. Wahlberg’s business ventures in the state extend beyond car dealerships, with him and his brothers opening a Wahlburgers location in Cleveland in 2017.
Mark Wahlberg's history with cars
Before being an automotive entrepreneur, Wahlberg was a car enthusiast. In his youth, Wahlberg worked two jobs to pay for driving lessons and his first car, a Pontiac LeMans that he bought for $200.
After purchasing the LeMans, Wahlberg soon upgraded to a different vehicle, a process he continued doing. He claims that he bought and traded 18 cars during a single year of driving.
Ultimately, Wahlberg’s dream was to afford a brand-new car, which now he clearly has no problem doing.
Today, Mark Wahlberg owns a noteworthy collection of cars containing everything from classic sports cars to modern luxury vehicles. Some highlights from his garage include a 1999 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster and a 2008 Bentley Azure T.
Despite this impressive collection, Wahlberg says that he likes to do most of his driving in more practical vehicles like, appropriately, the Chevy Suburban.
