The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 is the World Car of the Year
This awards program also includes other categories, such as the World Urban Car of the Year and World Performance Car of the Year. The first went to the Honda e, and Porsche 911 took home the World Performance Car of the Year for 2021. For VW, winning the World Car of the Year Award is a great start to their electric lineup.
The Volkswagen ID.4 win means electric vehicles are viable
The ID.4 can get up to 250 miles of range, and starts at $39,995. The SUV isn’t the most affordable, but it’s much cheaper than it’s rivals including the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E. EVs are becoming more popular, and VW being awarded an important prize on their first EV will encourage automakers to continue switching their vehicles to electric.
Other award-winning Volkswagen models
Volkswagen is no stranger to winning the World Car of the Year. In fact, this is the fifth time it has taken home the title. Its first win came in 2009 for the Volkswagen Golf VI. Other Volkswagen winners include the 2010 VW Polo, 2012 VW Up, and 2013 VW Golf.
