This Classic Mini Truck Is One of Honda’s Most Adorable Cars

Most Japanese automakers have a super small class of vehicles called the Kei. These cars appeal to those looking for the bare minimum functionality at the lowest cost. Unfortunately, many of these mini vehicles did not leave Japan, except for a few countries that do not include the U.S.A.
Honda
also manufactured a classic mini truck for the Kei Class, which turned out to be one of the most adorable cars of its time. Let's explore the
Honda
Acty, a classic truck that the U.S did not get a chance to ride.
Honda’s ACTY minitruck is seriously so adorable.

Small but fun and practical

As
Autotrader
explains, the Honda Acty was first produced in 1977 in Japan. The word 'Acty' is actually short for activity. The truck competed against other practical small trucks like the Subaru Sambar, Suzuki Carry, Mitsubishi Minicab, and Daihatsu Hijet.
For the small price and size, this truck lacked most luxury features, such as high-quality upholstery, a feature-rich dashboard, and lots of driver-assist tech. However, some trims of the first generation came with power steering, air conditioning, and a variety of decoration and customization features.
The Attack version was the most agile truck from this model. It had a top speed of 65 miles an hour, 4-speed manual transmission with a decent 0.6-liter, and a 3-cylinder engine that provided 38 horsepower. While this may feel low, it was pretty good for a vehicle of its size.
Other practical features of the practical truck included a locking rear differential, and ultra-low forward and reverse gears.
The Attack trim had a pretty big bed that opened at the sides. The front seat felt a little squeezed but okay for a vehicle of its size. Interestingly, the truck had great handling, especially the transmission, and when riding on somewhat uneven ground.

The evolution of the Honda Acty

The first generation of the Honda Acty was the TN-Acty, which looked much like the older TN360. According to
Minitrucks.net
, the truck ran on a 546cc, two-cylinder engine that produced a meager 28 horsepower. The truck had a van design. This van was later upgraded to the Street trim that hit the market in 1980.
The Street trim had better features, offering a high roof, 4WD, 5-speed manual transmission, and a rear climate zone. Later, it was fitted with a cooler box for keeping drinks cold and had front disc brakes.
Honda released the second Acty generation of trucks in 1988. These trucks had a bed but there were also van and Street versions from the first generation. The base truck ran on a 550cc 3-cylinder engine.
In addition, the truck had a real-time 4WD system and an advanced clutch. On the exterior, the truck featured round headlights while the Street version had hexagonal-shaped headlights. The second generation had 18 variations of the base models, each offering different features.
Between 1990 and 1999, Honda refreshed the Truck, Van, and Street models by featuring a more powerful engine and added the option of a 4-speed manual transmission to the lineup. It also upgraded the front fascia for both the van and the truck. Buyers also got halogen lights as an option.

What are the most recent Honda Acty models?

The third and the last generation of the Honda Acty was released between 1999 and 2010. This generation had power steering, a longer wheelbase, better fuel efficiency, and increased power. Unfortunately, the Street trim did not make it to the last generation. Instead, the company replaced it with a new model called the Vamos.
Honda also released three trims of the Acty Truck: Powerful, Fresh Delivery, and Utility. Each of them could be fitted with a mini gas tank, dry cargo box, hydraulic lift, or a dump bed. This was the most practical generation of the iconic truck and one that you are likely to see on the streets.
