Land Rover Discovery has added a shiny Metropolitan Edition
Car and Driver, the Metropolitan Edition is the new, high-end model of the three-rowed Land Rover Discovery.
The Metropolitan Edition is like a reimagined version of the Land Rover SUVs: more modern and upscale.
Visual enhancements make this shiny new model pack a bigger visual punch. There’s bright detailing on the radiator grille, and the leading edge of the hood says “DISCOVERY” quite boldly.
Silver bumper inserts, 22-inch diamond-turned gloss gray alloy wheels, and black brake calipers are also added to this spec.
Detailed specs of the Metropolitan Edition Land Rover Discovery
This top-of-the-line model comes with a powerful 355 hp 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. The engine features a 48 volt hybrid assistance, as well as a 8,200 lb towing capacity.
The Metropolitan Edition includes as standard: a head-up display, a heated steering wheel, and power operated third-row seating.
On top of adding the newest Metropolitan spec, Land Rover has also decided to improve the equipment of lesser Discovery models.
All Discovery versions now have standard wireless charging, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, and a Meridian audio system.
Is the Metropolitan Edition worth it?
The base Discovery starts at $57,950. If you want a luxury upgrade, the Metropolitan is priced at $76,600.
Car and Driverhave noted that drivers have found the Discovery to be a little lacking in balance, with too much of a focus on off-roading adventures.
Space has also been an issue for the Discovery. The three rows have room for seven seats, but the third row is small, suitable for kids, not adults.
This Land Rover SUV line is certainly not the cheapest out there. For example, the comparable Cadillac XT5 starts at $45,000.
So that begs the question—are the higher specs and pricing of the Metropolitan worth the $76,600? This depends on your driving needs and preferences.
If you like the more modern, luxurious look of the Discovery Metropolitan Edition, or if you have been a long-time fan of off-roading and the Land Rover brand, this SUV could be for you.
