So, is Amica a good insurance company?

Yes—especially for affordability and customer service.
Our experts analyzed lots of Amica reviews, and customers had great things to say! We found that 89% of our respondents had positive feedback, while just 3.5% were negative. To put that into perspective, the national average is 64% for positive reviews and 18.5% for negative reviews.
The good: Customers enjoy Amica’s low costs and the ease of speaking with customer service. Plus, Amica offers special discounts in addition to their wide range of standard discounts.
The other side: Drivers without clean driving records have higher rates, but that’s true of almost any insurance company.
To gather our research, we asked Amica policyholders to rate the company on cost, claims experience, customer service, and the renewal process.

Keep in mind: Car insurance rates are different for everyone since they’re based on individual driving habits and location. Here are the factors Amica uses to

Will Amica raise your rates?

Like all insurance carriers, Amica can only increase your premium
upon renewal
Here are some of the reasons your rate might go up with Amica:
  • New violations or tickets
  • New accidents
  • New location
  • New vehicle on a policy
  • New driver on a policy
  • Inflation
  • Age
According to our survey, 21% of drivers with an Amica auto insurance policy chose to renew at the end of the policy term.
Don’t forget: Insurers often change how they price their policies so it’s normal for your annual premium to fluctuate over time—even if nothing has changed with your driver profile.

Does Amica resolve claims fast?

Amica doesn’t list how long it takes to resolve a
car insurance claim
, but their website says they’ll handle claims “as quickly and efficiently as possible.” On our Jerry survey of drivers, Amica customers gave them top marks for claims processing.
You can submit an Amica claim online or on the phone with their insurance agents. These are typically the steps you’ll take:
  1. Report the claim
  2. Ask questions of the adjuster and schedule a vehicle inspection
  3. Get an estimate for repair costs following the inspection
  4. Get towing or vehicle repairs if needed
  5. Work with Amica if you need a rental car
After you file a claim, Amica will keep you updated on the settlement process. Like most insurance companies, Amica tries to quickly resolve claims to minimize the disruption to your life.
According to 22% of our survey respondents who filed a claim with Amica, the company came in 1st for claims satisfaction among other insurance companies of a similar size. The company also got a 5/5 for claims and resolutions, so clearly Amica customers are happy with their claims processing.

Amica car insurance discounts

Most car insurance companies offer discounts, but Amica offers an impressive range of
insurance discounts
and perks.
Always check for discounts before you sign a new car insurance policy since credits and deductions can really add up. You’ll usually see discounts for good driving, bundling policies, or taking driving courses. But you can also get good student discounts or loyalty rewards for staying with the same insurance company.
Here are some discounts you may be eligible for with Amica:
  • Student away at school discount
: Catch a break on your premium when a qualified student on your policy is away at school over 100 miles from home without a car.
  • Good student discount
: High school or college students who maintain a “B” average can enjoy a sweet discount.
  • Defensive driver training: Take an approved
    defensive driving course
and get a discount on your premium.
  • Multiple vehicle discount: Insure more than one car with Amica and get up to 25% off your policies.
  • Paperless discount: Get a reduced policy rate when you sign up for paperless billing.
  • Bundling auto and more discount: Get up to 30% off your premium when you bundle your auto insurance with renters or
    homeowners insurance
, umbrella insurance, or life insurance policies.
  • Parent loyalty discount: Enjoy a legacy discount if you’re under 30 years old and your parent has been insured with Amica for at least five years.
  • Loyalty discount: Amica rewards you with a discount if you’ve been insured continuously (with any auto insurer) for the past two years.
Keep in mind that Amica can adjust these discounts at any time and eligibility might change. Check with Amica to learn about their current discounts.

Amica coverage options

Insurance needs are different for everyone and each state requires different coverage. Fortunately, Amica offers a variety of
car insurance types
:

Amica’s additional tools and services

Amica also offers additional options, but coverage can vary by region. Check with Amica insurance agents to see if they offer the following add-on policies:
  • Medical payments
: You might see this referred to as MedPay. It’s an optional insurance product that helps pay for medical or funeral expenses for you, your family, or your passengers.
  • Full glass repair coverage: Enjoy peace of mind knowing that you won’t have to pay a deductible to replace your windshield if it gets cracked.
  • Roadside assistance
: This is sometimes called towing and labor coverage. You’ll get 24/7 roadside assistance that covers towing, fuel delivery, battery services, locksmith services, and more.
  • Rental reimbursement coverage
: If you have to pay for a rental car or public transit after you submit a claim and await vehicle repair, rental coverage helps pay for these bills.
  • Auto/loan lease coverage (
    gap insurance
): If your new car is totaled, gap insurance takes care of the difference between the
    actual cash value (ACV)
and the amount outstanding on your loan.
  • Umbrella policy
: Think of this as extra protection for your car, home, and other investments.
  • Rideshare coverage
: Amica is expanding its rideshare insurance, but it’s important to check with an agent to see if this optional coverage is available in your area.
Amica also offers a platinum choice auto policy, which is their premium insurance plan. It includes new car replacement coverage, credit monitoring, prestige rental coverage, and more.

FAQs

No, Amica does not insure drivers who are deemed “high-risk”, so they will not file an SR-22 for you.
Amica just received J.D. Power’s award for “Highest in Customer Satisfaction for the Digital Insurance Servicing Experience.” Amica also scored the highest for customer service satisfaction.
Not necessarily—an Amica policy price depends on your individual factors (age, location, coverage, and more). Amica uses these factors to calculate its rates. So, some drivers might find that they get
cheap car insurance
, while those with risk factors might be faced with pricey premiums.
Yes—Amica scored an average of 4.5 out of 5.0 in Jerry’s survey of lots of Amica customer reviews.
While both insurance companies offer similar insurance options and discounts, State Farm tends to cost more on average than Amica. Amica offers a wider variety of discounts, which can bring down the overall cost of car insurance. But car insurance quotes are highly individualized so it always pays to compare quotes from multiple insurers.
