Is it safe to learn driving during pregnancy?

I was planning to begin driving lessons this month but I just found out I’m six weeks pregnant. Will it be safe for me to learn to drive while I’m expecting?

First and foremost, congrats! And now for more good news—it’s perfectly safe for you to take driving lessons during your pregnancy. As long as you remain in good health you don’t need to put a halt on learning to drive, but be sure to follow any restrictions from your doctor to a tee.
As you tackle this important skill you’ll want to keep a few pointers in mind:
  • Don’t stress Sharing the road presents the occasional stressful situation to every driver, so as you learn try not to get overly frazzled. Regulating your blood pressure is super important when you’re expecting.
  • Stop driving when you’re tired Fatigue is common when you’ve got a bun in the oven. If you begin to feel worn down or sleepy, stop driving right away.
  • Make sure you can safely buckle your seatbelt As your belly grows, you’ll notice your seatbelt getting tighter. Although it might be uncomfortable, never forgo your seatbelt while driving or riding in a vehicle.
  • Don’t rush It’s understandable if you’re eager to cram in a bunch of lessons to take the driving test before your due date. Try not to push it. If you haven’t had enough time on the road, you risk failing the test due to inexperience.
You’re already restricted from enough activities, no need to add driving to the list. Always prioritize your health—don’t drive if you’re not feeling up to it and definitely not if you think you’re in labor.
