How much does Chevrolet car insurance cost?

Ah, good ol’ Chevrolet. The nickname “Chevy” reflects America’s fondness for these affordable cars and pickup trucks, alongside the car-lover’s-dream-made-real—the iconic Chevrolet Corvette. The “bowtie brand” made waves with the world’s all-time bestselling plug-in hybrid, the Volt, and has continued to deliver mainstays like the Chevrolet Camaro and Silverado plus new models, such as the Blazer, Bolt, and Trax.

At Jerry, we obsess over finding affordable car insurance for everybody. We found that insurance coverage for the average Chevrolet costs about $92 per month. Compared to the national average, Chevrolets cost 2% less to insure. That said, average rates are not a good indicator of what your own policy might cost. The only way to truly understand how much your car insurance will cost is to compare car insurance quotes for your own driver profile.

How to find the cheapest Chevrolet Car Insurance Quotes

It’s understandable if you think that cheap car insurance is a thing of the past. With so many providers and products available, comparing car insurance quotes is a long and tedious affair. That’s why we invented Jerry, the app store’s number one trustworthy super app for auto insurance. Check out some recent car insurance quotes Jerry found for Chevrolet drivers:

Best car insurance companies for Chevrolet drivers

The best way to shop for auto insurance is to compare quotes from at least three providers.

No single car insurance company offers the best rates for every driver and every make of car, including Chevrolet. Some companies specialize in helping high-risk drivers, and others (well, most) prefer customers with clean driving records. We asked drivers of all different ages, locations, and driving histories for their preferred insurance provider and received a rainbow of answers.

Here’s how Chevy drivers rated the top companies in the nation:

How’d we get these scores?
Jerry’s experts conducted one of the largest car insurance surveys in the United States. We surveyed 15,000 policyholders, in all 50 states, over the span of 18 months. These policyholders hold insurance policies with 87 different insurance companies. We surveyed policyholders to gauge their satisfaction with their insurance carriers in: policy cost, customer service, buying and renewal experience, as well as claim experience. These scores were all reported by real customers of the insurance companies.

By sales, the five most popular Chevrolets in 2022 were the Silverado, Equinox, Malibu, Tahoe, and Traverse.

But popularity alone doesn’t make a cheap insurance plan. Your annual rates depend on several key characteristics of the model you drive, including:

  • Car parts: Uncommon or unique pieces, like supercharged engine components or custom badges, increase repair and insurance costs.
  • Cost of repairs: Since insurance companies are responsible for repairing your car, they offer lower premiums to cars with cheap repair costs.
  • Engine size: Larger engines are more expensive to repair and therefore more expensive to insure.
  • MSRP: High-price trims and fancy features cost more to purchase and insure.
  • Safety features: Better crash ratings and driver assistance technologies make for fewer accidents and injuries, which lowers insurance costs.
  • Vehicle class: On a scale of insurance costs, compact SUVs and sedans are at the lower end while EVs, hybrids, full-size cars, and sports cars are at the top.

The type of insurance coverage you choose also decides how much you pay for your annual premiums.

Liability insurance is required by (most) state laws and is often the cheapest insurance to buy, especially if you stick to the minimum coverage limits required. It covers the cost of mending any damages you cause while driving and includes both bodily injury liability and property damage liability.

Full-coverage car insurance, on the other hand, covers the cost of repairing or replacing your car even if you were at fault. It tends to be more expensive. It includes collision coverage, which covers impacts with cars and other objects, and comprehensive coverage, which covers damage from crime and weather.

Here’s a comparison between the cost of car insurance for a Chevrolet with liability coverage versus full coverage:

CarAverage State Minimum Insurance CostAverage Full Coverage Insurance Cost
Chevrolet Malibu$100$195
Chevrolet Equinox$90$165
Chevrolet Silverado$86$166
Chevrolet Cruze$105$186

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 insurance costs

There’s no greater recommendation for the Chevrolet Silverado than the fact that it’s the top car in some of the country’s most rugged states, from the hot and dry New Mexico to the cold heights of Montana. While it hasn’t yet taken the crown from America’s favorite pick-up truck, the Ford F-150, the Silverado is both powerful and reliable. Chevy owners take this truck to work at construction, ranching, and farming jobs and play on off-roading and rock-crawling trails.

On average, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 insurance costs $0 per month for state minimum coverage and $0 per month for full coverage. But you might pay more or less than this estimate depending on the trims, packages, and options you select.

The 2024 Silverado is available in a two-door Regular Cab, a four-door Double Cab, and four different powertrains. Increase your horsepower, and your premiums will go up. The same goes for comfort features (such as dual-zone automatic climate control and heated seats) and entertainment options (such as a larger touchscreen or Bose audio system).

Fortunately, Chevy equips the Silverado with a forward collision warning system, lane-departure warnings, and lane-keeping assistance, which helps reduce insurance rates.

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado comes in nine trim levels. Click the links to learn more about insurance costs for each model!

  • The Silverado Work Truck (WT) (est. $36,300) keeps it simple with a turbocharged, 2.7L four-cylinder engine; a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen; and air conditioning.
  • The Silverado Custom (est. $43,600) adds cloth upholstery, LED cargo bed lighting, and power-adjustable and heated mirrors to the same engine.
  • The Silverado LT ($48,000) offers your choice of a four-cylinder, V8, or six-cylinder diesel engine. Its main attractions are a 12.3-inch digital gauge display, a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, heated front seats, and keyless entry and ignition.
  • The Silverado Custom Trail Boss (est. $51,800) is built for off-roading, featuring four-wheel drive, an automatic locking rear differential, and hill descent control. Choose from a four-cylinder, V8, or diesel six-cylinder engine.
  • The Silverado RST (est. $52,300) is identical to the LT but features a sportier panel design.
  • The Silverado LTZ (est. $57,200) adds pricey premiums like a power liftgate, leather upholstery, and Bose audio system, but offsets them with blindspot warnings, a surround-view camera array, and front and rear parking sensors.
  • The Silverado LT Trail Boss (est. $58,000) adds heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat to the Custom Trail Boss trim level. Its safety ratings are slightly higher thanks to a pair of LED headlights.
  • The Silverado High Country (est. $62,100) enjoys the best of everything, including enhanced LED lights and heated rear seats. It’s the only trim to come standard with adaptive cruise control.
  • The Silverado ZR2 (est. $71,500) has the option of either a 6.2L V8 or a six-cylinder diesel engine. Four-wheel drive is standard, as are ventilated front seats, a Bose audio system, and electronic locking front and rear differentials. Its blindspot warning and surround-view camera system help mitigate the increased insurance costs.

Chevrolet Equinox insurance costs

Is it avant-garde or cutting-edge? Not really. Is it affordable? Absolutely! The Equinox doesn’t particularly stand out, but it’s got enough of everything to make it a decent choice for a family SUV. While some might find its engine and interior design lackluster, the lack of premium materials makes Equinox’s insurance costs equally affordable.

On average, Chevrolet Equinox insurance costs $90 per month for state minimum coverage and $165 per month for full coverage.

The 2024 Equinox features four trims powered by a turbocharged, 1.5L four-cylinder engine capable of making 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Each one adds more driver assistance technology, which helps keeps insurance costs low. The base starts with forward collision warnings, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high beams.

Here are the four trims for the 2023 Chevrolet Equinox and their respective insurance costs (just click the links!):

  • The Equinox LS ($26,600) kicks off the line with automatic LED headlights, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a host of entertainment features. While it’s nice to have USB ports, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keep in mind that all these gadgets will make for higher premiums.
  • The Equinox LT ($27,700) adds a power-adjustable driver’s seat and an enhanced multi-color driver information display. If you can do without the frills, stick with the LS and add standalone options like parking sensors and blindspot warnings for cheaper rates.
  • The Equinox RS ($30,700) comes with a sporty body and dual-zone automatic climate control to keep you looking and feeling cool. The power liftgate and roof rails are handy, but it’s the front and rear parking sensors that’ll make the biggest difference to your annual rates.
  • The Equinox Premier ($31,800) goes all out with ambient cabin lighting, leather upholstery, and a large, 8-inch touchscreen. While these premium features come with higher rates, the Premier’s parking sensors, blind spot warnings, and rear cross-traffic alerts should give you a small insurance discount.

Chevrolet Malibu insurance costs

The mid-size Chevrolet Malibu is a generalist. It’s spacious and accommodating, capably powered and modestly dressed, and young families, commuters, and new drivers will find it a valuable package.

On average, Chevrolet Malibu insurance costs $100 per month for state minimum coverage and $195 per month for full coverage.

The Malibu’s insurance costs are equally modest, but you can make them even more affordable by skipping the highest trim levels. Pricey vanities and gadgets only add to your annual rates. Instead, try the safety-conscious Driver Confidence or Driver Confidence & Cruise packages.

The 2024 Chevrolet Malibu features four trim levels. Here they are from least to most expensive, which is also reflected in their insurance costs (click the links to find out more):

  • The Malibu LS ($25,100) is the base model, featuring a turbocharged, 1.5L four-cylinder engine, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition, the LS is equipped with lane-departure warnings, forward collision warnings, and automatic high beams.
  • The Malibu RS ($26,000) is more expensive to insure thanks to its unique black grilles and badges, power adjustable driver’s seat, and rear spoiler.
  • The Malibu 1LT ($28,000) includes LED running lights, heated mirrors, heated front seats, and dual-zone climate control.
  • The Malibu 2LT ($31,500) boasts leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a premium Bose audio system. On the safety side, it’s the only trim to carry LED headlights and taillights.

Chevrolet Tahoe insurance costs

“Tahoe.” Even the name sounds big and sturdy. Families who need to haul lots of kit (and toys) will find its 5.3L V8 engine suitable for both country and city expeditions. This full-size SUV is great for making memories at your destination… if not during the trip itself. According to critics, both the Tahoe’s seats and suspension are stiff.

On average, Chevrolet Tahoe insurance costs $90 per month for state minimum coverage and $161 per month for full coverage.

Keep your costs low by opting for the Advanced Technology or Driver Alert packages instead of higher trims. The packages include dollar-saving features such as surround-view parking cameras, rear automatic braking, and blind spot warnings. With expensive-to-repair engines and entertainment technology, fancier trims only raise your rates.

Here’s an overview of the 2024 Chevy Tahoe’s six trims (and their insurance costs—just click the links):

  • The Tahoe LS ($54,200) begins with LED headlights, tri-zone automatic climate control, and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Tahoe’s standard safety features also include forward collision warnings, lane-departure warnings, automatic high beams, and front and rear parking sensors.
  • The Tahoe LT ($59,700) adds quality-of-life touches like a hands-free liftgate, leather upholstery, and a Bose audio system. The central touchscreen also gets a 2.2-inch boost.
  • The Tahoe RST ($62,300) builds on the LT with 22-inch wheels, RST seat stitching, and unique black exterior style elements. The optional Sports Performance pack adds a 6.2L V8 and magnetic shock absorbers.
  • The Tahoe Z71 ($64,300) installs 20-inch wheels, four-wheel-drive, and hill descent control for more rugged terrain.
  • The Tahoe Premier ($67,600) includes chrome accents, a premium Bose sound system, and heated and ventilated front seats. At this level, you also get blind spot warnings and rear cross-traffic alerts.
  • The Tahoe High Country ($74,400) tops things off with a surround-view parking camera system, windshield heads-up display, and adaptive cruise control. It also packs a 420-horsepower, 6.2L V8 engine.

Chevrolet Traverse insurance costs

The Chevrolet Traverse sells about six times fewer units than the Silverado and half as many as the next runner-up, the Equinox. These sales numbers encapsulate the bowtie brand’s biggest problem: outside of its tried-and-true staples, the company struggles to differentiate its models from the competition. Case in point, the Traverse lacks the power, style, or technology to make it more than average.

On average, Chevrolet Traverse insurance costs $0 per month for state minimum coverage and $0 per month for full coverage.

Every Traverse includes a 3.6L V6 engine, a nine-speed automatic transmission, lane-keeping assistance, and forward collision mitigation with automatic braking. While you might be tempted to upgrade the upholstery and exterior badging, just remember you’ll have to pay for these cosmetics twice—once at the time of purchase and the second time on your insurance bills.

Here are the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse’s six trims (and their insurance costs—just click the links to find out):

  • The Traverse LS ($34,520) includes cloth upholstery and tri-zone climate controls. The 7-inch infotainment touchscreen is loaded with a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
  • The Traverse LT Cloth ($37,045) adds several practical upgrades like foglights, rear parking sensors, and blindspot warnings.
  • The Traverse LT Leather ($40,740), on the other hand, luxuriates in leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a 4.2-inch multi-color instrument display (on top of the LT Cloth’s upgrades).
  • The Traverse RS ($45,045) adds cosmetic upgrades like blacked-out exterior style elements and 20-inch, dark-finish aluminum wheels.
  • The Traverse Premier ($47,200) delivers a cushy ride with ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a hands-free liftgate. The Premier also includes a unique safety feature: a “safety alert” seat that vibrates to warn the driver of potential collisions.
  • The Traverse High Country ($52,000) adds both performance and comfort, with a heavy-duty engine cooler, a trailer hitch (and guidance system), a panoramic sunroof, and a power-folding third-row.

Special mention goes to the LT Premium package, which includes adaptive cruise control, enhanced automatic emergency brakes, and a 360-degree, top-down parking camera system. Whether included in a vehicle trim level, option, or package, these safety features can help lower your insurance rates by lowering your chances of getting into a collision. What factors affect Chevrolet car insurance rates?

The motor vehicle you drive is just one factor in how your car insurance is calculated. The rest of the formula includes:

  • The cost of your vehicle: The higher the price tag—think exotic, luxury, or high-performance sports cars—the higher the cost of collision, comprehensive, and other coverage options.
  • The age of your vehicle: Featuring more sophisticated technology and materials, vehicles of a newer model year often cost more to insure than older ones.
  • The cost of parts: Custom, imported, or high-value parts cost more to replace and repair, making for higher premiums.
  • Your age: Car insurance rates start high for new and teen drivers, drop at the age of 25, and rise again after 75, when vision and hearing loss poses an increased risk of collisions.
  • Your driving record and insurance claims history: Insurance companies are allergic to risk, so they give lower rates to customers with safe driver profiles.
  • Your parking spot: A quiet lane in the countryside in Colorado poses a smaller risk of theft or vandalism than a dense urban street in a Californian city, giving rural drivers better insurance rates.

When it comes to Chevrolet insurance costs, there are three deciding factors:

  • Safety: Chevrolet didn’t win any Top Safety Pick awards in 2022, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) awarded the Silverado, Equinox, and Traverse a five-star crash rating. The Tahoe got four stars, while the Malibu went unrated.
  • Reliability: Consumer Reports note that Chevrolets tend to be less reliable than other makes.
  • Availability: You’ll have no problem finding parts for the Silverado, but the same can’t be said for the Tahoe or Traverse, whose sales figures trail far behind.

Chevrolet insurance cost for young drivers

It’s hard to find cheap car insurance for teens because drivers aged 16 to 19 pay the highest rates of any age group. You can save money by adding young Chevy drivers to another policy (such as their parents’). Just don’t skimp on insurance coverage!

Chevrolet insurance cost for senior drivers

Drivers are more likely to get into a car accident as they age and lose their vision, hearing, and reflexes. The best seniors’ car insurance providers offer discounts for retirees, stay-at-home motorists, and drivers with few insurance claims on record

Chevrolet insurance cost for drivers with driving violations

For the lowest auto insurance rates, you’ll need to pair your Chevrolet with a clean driving record. If you committed any of the following within the last three to five years, you’ll see a surcharge on your monthly insurance bills:

  • Speeding tickets
  • DUIs
  • At-fault accidents
  • License suspensions or revocations
  • Reckless driving

Even if you have a high-risk driver profile, it’s not the end of the world. Here’s where to find the cheapest car insurance rates following every kind of violation.

Cheapest car insurance for Chevrolet drivers with speeding ticket

How can I lower the cost of my Chevrolet car insurance?

Still struggling to insure your Chevy? Here are a few tips to lower your annual rates, courtesy of Jerry’s insurance agents:

  • Shop around: The best way to get cheap car insurance is to compare quotes from at least three different insurance providers. There’s no way to know you’ve got the best deal unless you’ve looked around!
  • Choose a cheaper model: If you’re shopping for a Chevrolet, look for a model that’s compact, cheap to repair, and stuffed with safety features. Buying used can also save you a few bucks each month.
  • Bundle your insurance policies: A car and home insurance bundle can get you a discount on each product if you purchase them from the same company.
  • Install a telematics device: Telematics devices track where, how far, when, and how you drive. Drive infrequently and safely and you could benefit from car insurance discounts.
  • Reduce your coverage: If your car is worth less than 10 times your premiums, it might be time to and lower your bills.
  • Raise your deductible: Considering your financial situation will help you choose the best car insurance deductible—the more you pay upfront after an accident, the less you’ll pay in premiums year by year.
