How much does it cost to rewire a car?

My car had electrical problems, so I took it to the mechanic. I hoped it was just the battery, but he said the car would need to be rewired. How much does it cost to rewire a car?

To have your car rewired, you can expect to pay between $1,200 and $1,500, depending on the make and model of the vehicle and the extent of the work and damage.
Pro Tip: Before rewiring your entire car, have a certified mechanic look at your vehicle. If a small area needs fixing, replacing a single part can be a lot more wallet-friendly.
Here are a few more examples of costs for specific parts:
  • Wire harness: $1,300
  • Fuse: $40-$150
  • Starter relay: $70-$200
In most cases, you don’t have to replace the entire wiring system in your vehicle and can just replace the damaged section or components.
That said, some reasons that can influence the cost of electrical work include:
  • Advanced electrical systems
  • Extent of damage
  • Age of vehicle
  • Vehicle made and model
