How much does it cost to fix an engine with reduced power?

My engine has been notably weaker recently, with less speed and longer acceleration times. Plus, the Reduced Power Light just popped up on my dashboard. I’d like to return my engine to prime working condition. How much does it cost to fix an engine with reduced power?

Nobody wants their car to perform at suboptimal levels. The cost of these repairs can vary greatly depending on the culprit, but most fixes will cost between $100 and $500.
First, a mechanic will need to determine what is wrong with your engine. This diagnostic test will cost a half hour to an hour of labor.
Here are a few possible culprits for why the Reduced Engine Power light is on:
  • A wire, harness, or clamp has come loose
  • The oxygen sensors are failing
  • There is an issue with the throttle position sensor
  • The catalytic converter is clogged
Excluding the catalytic converter, none of these are major repairs or maintenance. Expect to pay between $100 and $500, including parts and labor, to get your engine back in shape. However, a catalytic converter issue can cost over $2,000.
The only way to find out what’s wrong is to bring your car into a repair shop. Don’t wait any longer—the issue will only grow worse, making repairs more expensive.
While most engine repairs aren’t covered, there are plenty of repairs and costs that can be paid for by a good
