How can I suspend GEICO car insurance?

I'm going away for a few months and won't be driving my car. I'd like to keep insurance on it, but it seems silly to pay when I’m not even driving. Can you suspend your car insurance with GEICO?

You can't suspend your
GEICO car insurance
, but you might be able to switch your policy to
car storage insurance
for the time that you won't be driving.
This type of coverage is also known as parked car insurance. It includes comprehensive coverage in case something happens to your vehicle while it's parked, including:
  • Vandalism
  • Theft
  • Natural disasters and severe weather damage
Remember: Car storage insurance doesn't include liability insurance or adhere to minimum insurance requirements, so you cannot drive the vehicle until you reinstate your regular
car insurance policy
.
Whatever you choose to do, make sure you don't cancel your policy and go without coverage. If your vehicle is registered, it must have car insurance. Plus, having a lapse in coverage on your record will mean high insurance rates once you need a new insurance policy.
