You have three main options to make changes to your State Farm policy: online, on the phone or in person.

Question: Is there an easier way to remove a car from my State Farm policy? I have always gone to my agent’s office, but I would like to update my policy remotely this time, if possible.

Answer: Going into a State Farm branch to deal with auto policy changes would be a bit old school. If that is no longer your preference, you have two other ways to make changes to your State Farm policy, including removing a car.

The most self-sufficient way is to log in to your online State Farm account and take care of things that way. This could be using a web browser or using the State Farm app. However, before you can do this, you’ll need to ensure you have an online account setup. If you don’t have an online account and are already a State Farm customer, you can head to their Create An Account page.

Once you’ve set up your account and have a login name and password, you can access your policy information on State Farm’s website.

You can also access policy information via the State Farm app. You can download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play. If you send a text message to 78836 with the word “MOBILE,” you’ll receive a direct link to download the State Farm app.

Using the State Farm app

You may actually prefer to use the State Farm app as it is better designed for access on your mobile device. You’ll be able to access a wide range of functionality with your policy including:

  • Manage your insurance policies: View a list of all your policies.
  • File and manage claims: You can start a claim or take care of details to keep the process moving.
  • Access your ID cards: Most U.S. states allow digital versions of your auto insurance ID card to be used. You can access them via your app anytime you need them.
  • Get roadside assistance: If you need a jumpstart, towing, or got locked out of your car, you can summon help within the app.
  • Upload photos and documents: If you’re in the middle of a claims process and need to provide pictures or documentation, the app can accept those uploads directly.
  • Connect with your agent: You can also get support from your agent’s office in the app.

Besides going into a local office or accessing your account online via the website or app, your third option is to call toll-free and talk to a customer service representative who can assist you with your policy and any potential changes that need to be made. State Farm customer service can be reached at 1-855-733-7333
