To get you these results, Jerry surveyed over 18,000 car insurance policyholders across the country. After 18 months of collecting and analyzing the data, we have a definitive ranking of over 120 insurance providers in the categories of customer service, claims, cost, and more.

So, is Acceptance a good insurance company?

Yes, especially for high-risk drivers who have been turned away from other insurers.
We analyzed over 500 real customer reviews from Acceptance. Of those reviews, we found that 73% were overwhelmingly positive, while only 2% were negative.
Considering the national average ratio of 64% positive reviews to 18.54% negative reviews, it’s clear why Acceptance took a spot within the top 10.
The good: Compared to the survey average, Acceptance excels in customer service, processing claims, and simplifying the process of buying insurance products. The majority of customers reported that:
  • Customer service was patient, friendly, and responsive
  • The claims process was painless and problem-free
  • Quotes were accurate and easy to get online
On the other side: Acceptance fell only slightly behind the survey average in terms of cost and renewals.
We asked policyholders to rate Acceptance on their cost, customer service, claims process, purchase, renewal, and overall satisfaction.

Acceptance pros and cons

Based on our analysis of our national insurance customer satisfaction survey and Acceptance’s public third-party rankings, we’d say it excels in customer service but needs to improve its plan pricing. Here’s what there is to like (and dislike) about purchasing a policy from Acceptance:
iconPros
Accepts drivers with both major and minor driving violations
Convenient, easy-to-use website with free quotes
Helpful customer service
Willing to help drivers with poor credit
iconCons
Expensive rates
Limited product offerings

Is Acceptance the right insurance company for you?

Acceptance is one of the best car insurance companies for:
  • Single drivers
  • Drivers with a history of traffic violations
  • Drivers with poor credit
  • Drivers looking for flexibility
Keep in mind: As its name suggests, Acceptance welcomes any driver seeking a second chance. But if you’ve got a clean driving record, you can probably find cheaper rates elsewhere.
Acceptance Insurance is a mid-size company that operates across 13 states stretching from the mid-east to the southeast to the southwest. Its customer service department is open from Monday to Friday from 6:00 AM to 8:00 CST and on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST.
The company’s list of products includes:
  • Auto insurance
  • Homeowners insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Motorcycle insurance
  • Pet insurance
  • Renters insurance
Acceptance also offers non-owner and SR-22 insurance policies.

Keep in mind: Car insurance quotes are highly personal. Depending on their driver profiles, two customers from the same city could receive offers that are hundreds of dollars apart!
Like every other auto insurance company, Acceptance uses a complicated formula to
calculate car its insurance rates
based on factors like:
State law allows every provider to use a unique formula for insurance premiums, but looking at the data, we can see some general cost trends grouped by state.

Acceptance cost reviews

Take a look at how real Jerry users rated Acceptance based on cost below:

Will Acceptance raise your rates?

Yes. As a rule, you’ll pay a little more at Acceptance (and every other company) each time
your car insurance renews
Acceptance may increase your rates if:
  • The inflation rate rises
  • You add a new driver to your policy
  • You add a new vehicle to your policy
  • You change your address
  • You’re involved in a car accident
  • You receive a traffic ticket
Our results say that 58% of drivers surveyed chose to renew their policy with Acceptance.
Remember: Even if there are no changes to your driver profile, it’s normal for your insurance rates to fluctuate over time. Providers often make changes to the way they price their policies.

Does Acceptance resolve claims fast?

On its website, Acceptance advises that every claim it receives will be handled “as quickly as possible”. In our survey, customers reported high satisfaction with the claims process.
Ideally, a provider should assign an adjuster to your case soon after you
file a car insurance claim
. The adjuster’s job is to investigate the claim, assess any injuries or damages, and decide whether to approve or deny it based on the relevant policy terms and limits. A swift and efficient claims process helps to reduce the strain on consumers’ finances and emotions.
About 59% of Acceptance customers shared what it was like to file a claim with the company, rating it 5.0 out of 5.0 for efficiency and overall satisfaction. That said, Acceptance received a high number of customer complaints with the Better Business Bureau.
The average claims satisfaction index for every company we surveyed in the country is only 3.54. Acceptance crushed this survey category, a result its competitors should strive to emulate.

Acceptance car insurance discounts

Acceptance’s car insurance offers include bundle, good student, and safe driver discounts. But customers reported the company didn’t offer as many ways to save as larger competitors, like
Nationwide
.
You can turn a good deal into a great one with the right
car insurance discount
, which often doesn’t require any more effort than dialing your provider’s phone number. You could find savings based on your age, mileage, driving record, and vehicle safety rating—or even your marital status!
Only 13% of Acceptance’s customer comments mentioned that they liked the discounts. Indeed, the company’s list of savings programs is a little short:
  • Bundle discounts
: Since Acceptance also offers renters and homeowners insurance, you could pick up two or three products and save.
  • Good student discount
: Acceptance offers customers between the ages of 16 and 24 a chance to save 4%-20% as long as they maintain good grades in school.
  • Multiple-car discount: Similar to bundling, when you insure multiple cars with the same company, you save.
  • National Safe Driver Program (NSDP): Acceptance offers a rate reduction to customers who take a
    defensive driving course
    through the NSDP.
  • Paid-in-full discount: If you can afford to pay your premiums all in one lump sum, do so—it’s cheaper that way.
  • Paperless billing discount: Switch to electronic billing to shave a little money off your premiums.
  • Roadside assistance discount: Acceptance also offers roadside assistance. By adding it to your auto insurance, you could save money on a bundle and your regular premiums.
  • Safe driver discount
: Drivers without any accidents or claims in the past three years can find a great rate with Acceptance.
  • Usage-based insurance (UBI): UBI auto insurance policies track your mileage with an app or telematics device. The less you drive, the more you save!
  • Vehicle anti-theft device
discount: Acceptance mentions it offers a discount for installing an aftermarket alarm like The Club, but the offer may also extend to other devices.
Like your rates, car insurance discounts can change over time. To get the most up-to-date information (and to see whether you qualify to save), visit the Acceptance website or contact a representative.

Acceptance coverage options

The best insurance policy is one tailored to suit your needs and your
state’s insurance requirements
. Here are the most common
types of car insurance
, add-ons, and extra coverage options that you can find with Acceptance:
  • Collision coverage:
Collision insurance pays to repair your car after an impact with another vehicle or object, whether it’s your fault or not.
  • Comprehensive coverage:
Fire, weather, vandalism, or theft won’t phase you if you have comprehensive protection.
  • Liability insurance
: Covering the cost of any damages you cause behind the wheel, liability insurance is required in most states. There are usually separate minimum coverage limits required for
    bodily injury liability (BIL)
    and
    property damage liability (PDL)
    .
  • Medical payments (MedPay):
As the name suggests, MedPay covers you and your passengers’ medical treatments after an accident.
  • Non-owner insurance:
If you don’t own a car, a non-owner policy acts as supplemental liability coverage whenever drive a borrowed or rental car.
  • Personal injury protection (PIP):
A no-fault insurance policy that covers you and your passengers’ hospital bills, lost wages, and related medical costs after a car accident.
  • Rental reimbursement:
You can rent a car or take a taxi and get reimbursed if your car is in the shop following an insurance claim.
  • Roadside assistance:
Acceptance offers 24/7 roadside assistance, including towing, winching, jumpstarts, battery charges, flat tire changes, and locksmith services.
  • SR-22 insurance:
SR-22 insurance isn’t insurance, but a certificate that a provider agrees to file with the DMV on behalf of a high-risk customer.
  • Uninsured motorist (UM) and underinsured motorist coverage (UIM):
UM/UIM pays for your damages if the at-fault driver isn’t carrying enough insurance (i.e., they’re underinsured) or any insurance at all (i.e., they’re uninsured).
Compared to other insurance providers, Acceptance merely covers the basics. You’ll have to look elsewhere for trip interruption travel insurance and other specialty products.

Acceptance’s additional tools and services

As a mid-size company, Acceptance offers a minimal set of tools to customers looking to manage their experience. Here’s how to customize, discount, and manage your policy:
  • Claims handling: Acceptance offers customers help with settling claims with other insurance companies, and even hiring legal representation in the event of a personal injury lawsuit.
  • Policy changes and payments: Acceptance currently offers policy changes by phone or through a local insurance agent.
  • Preferred partner discounts: If you choose to have your car repaired at one of Acceptance’s preferred partners, you may get their services at a discount.
  • Online claims filing: Acceptance customers can file a claim online by logging into acceptanceinsurance.com.
Again, tools, services, and savings vary by location (and over time). Call your local Acceptance representative or visit the website to get the latest details from customer service.
