How to get your AAA auto insurance ID card

To get your insurance ID card from AAA, you can download a copy online, or request one by mail or in person. Additionally, AAA policyholders can access their digital insurance card at any time on the AAA app.
  • Online: Log in to your AAA account and click on your account. Next, click “View card” and you’ll be presented with your card which you can save or print.
  • Mail: Printer on the fritz? You can obtain a physical copy of your card by either logging into your AAA account or calling a Member Service Counselor at (800) 222-8252.
  • Walk-in: Stop in any full-service branch location to request a copy of your insurance card.
After you sign up for a AAA insurance policy, you will be sent an email containing a link for your insurance ID card. If you can, download it and print it as soon as possible (printing a backup wouldn’t hurt) so you have a copy in your car should you need to provide
proof of insurance
.

What’s included on your AAA insurance card

Your AAA ID card functions as proof of financial responsibility, showing that you’ve purchased at least the minimum amount of insurance coverage legally required by your state. It won’t indicate any specifics of your policy, but it will show:
  • Your insurance provider’s name and address (i.e., AAA)
  • The provider’s NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) number
  • Your full name
  • The make, model, and vehicle identification number (VIN) of your car
  • The effective date and expiration date of your policy
More detailed information about your policy, like coverage limits or deductibles, can be found on your
declarations page
. It’s important to note that although your declaration page has plenty of information about your insurance policy, it cannot be used as proof of insurance

Can you show proof of insurance on your phone?

New Mexico
is the only state that does not allow drivers to use their phone to show electronic proof of insurance during a traffic stop. Good news for residents in the other 49 states—if you are pulled over, you can show proof of insurance right on your AAA app.
Most major car insurance companies, including
GEICO
,
State Farm
, and
Allstate
offer both digital ID cards and traditional physical insurance cards. With a policy from AAA, you’ll have the ability to show proof of insurance through the app or with a physical copy that’s been printed out.
“I would 11/10 recommend
