How do I remove my Tesla charger?

This feels like such a silly question, but I finally got a Tesla after years of saving up, and I’m all set up for it—except that I plugged it in to charge it, and now I can’t unplug it! Please help! How can I remove my Tesla charger from my car?

To remove a standard
Tesla
charger:
  • Step 1: Make sure your car is unlocked.
  • Step 2: Press and hold the button on the charger until the LED on the charge port changes color.
  • Step 3: Remove the charger once the light has changed.
If you’re using an adapter with your charger:
  • Step 1: Hold the charging handle with one hand and the Tesla adapter with the other.
  • Step 2: Press and hold the button on the charging handle until the LED changes color.
  • Step 3: Pull the charger and adapter out with both hands.
If the adapter and charger are separated, use the touchscreen to unlock the charging port and pull out the adapter.
If none of the above options worked, follow these steps to unlock the charging port manually:
  • Step 1: Check the touchscreen to ensure the vehicle isn’t actively charging.
  • Step 2: Open the trunk.
  • Step 3: Open the flap on the left-hand side of the trunk.
  • Step 4: Hold down the charge port’s annual release lever to release the charger.
