How much does Mitsubishi car insurance cost?
Mitsubishi Motors made a name for itself with sports cars, but the lineup is now geared towards everyday options, from the Mirage G4 to plug-in hybrids like the Outlander PHEV. If you’re looking for an SUV, you’ll want to take a closer look at their lineup since that is their brand focus.
Mitsubishi drivers pay an average of $99 per year for auto insurance. Mitsubishi drivers pay 1% more than the national average for insurance, but it also depends on the model.
Your driving history, the car you own, how old you are, and even where you live are some of the things that determine the cost of your auto insurance. This means there is no one insurance provider offering the best rates for Mitsubishi drivers since prices differ from person to person.

How’d we get these scores?
Jerry’s experts conducted one of the largest car insurance surveys in the United States. We surveyed 15,000 policyholders, in all 50 states, over the span of 18 months. These policyholders hold insurance policies with 87 different insurance companies. We surveyed policyholders to gauge their satisfaction with their insurance carriers in: policy cost, customer service, buying and renewal experience, as well as claim experience. These scores were all reported by real customers of the insurance companies.
Insurance costs for popular Mitsubishi models
Which Mitsubishi you drive affects your insurance premium. Let’s look at how the vehicle model can affect your insurance costs:
- Safety features: Mitsubishi got a Top Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and they use technology to help keep you safe, whether it’s a host of options with the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) or the MI-PILOT Assist that keep your speed and position steady while driving. Safety features like these help when it comes to insurance.
- Vehicle value: The more expensive the vehicle, the higher your insurance rate will be to reflect how much it is worth, so something like the Mirage G4 will be cheaper than the Outlander.
- Vehicle class: A smaller class, like the tiny Mirage, will generally be cheaper to insure, while their hybrid Outlander PHEV will be the most expensive since hybrids and electric vehicles rely on pricier parts.
- Engine size: Mitsubishi loves their SUVs, but, contrary to what many drivers think, SUVs often see some of the cheapest insurance rates on the market. This is mostly thanks to overall higher safety ratings than smaller vehicles.
- Availability of replacement parts: Since Mitsubishi is a Japanese company, the parts must be imported, which will add to your expense. A hybrid vehicle is also more expensive, which will be calculated into your insurance premium.
- Cost of repairs: Mitsubishi’s fit somewhere between domestic brands and European ones regarding repair costs–they are higher than other Japanese brands but not nearly as expensive as a BMW. Your insurer will consider this when ringing up that bill.
Let’s look at the average cost for insurance on Mitsubishi models:
Car | Average State Minimum Insurance Cost | Average Full Coverage Insurance Cost |
---|---|---|
Mitsubishi Outlander | $103 | $192 |
Mitsubishi Mirage | $98 | $195 |
Mitsubishi Lancer | $103 | $186 |
Mitsubishi Eclipse | $92 | $179 |
Mitsubishi Galant | $95 | $177 |
Mitsubishi Endeavor | $93 | $157 |
Mitsubishi Montero | $104 | $141 |
No matter which Mitsubishi model you own, you must have the right car insurance policy before driving. The minimum insurance coverage required by law in your state is typically just basic liability insurance, which includes coverage for both bodily injury and property damage liability.
However, if you just bought a new Mitsubishi or a hybrid, you should consider full-coverage insurance to get collision and comprehensive coverage. State minimum insurance is really about paying for the other driver’s bills in the accident, while full coverage helps pay for your own medical and repair bills.
Mitsubishi Mirage G4 insurance costs
If you’re looking for the little car that could, you’ll want to check out the Mirage G4. It’s got a bit of everything wrapped in a small package, perfect for everyday errands while still giving you enough space for passengers or cargo. And with an estimated 35 MPG in the city or 41 MPG on the highway, you won’t burn through your gas money either.
Let’s look at your options when it comes to 2024 trim levels:
- ES: (starting MSRP $17,245) You get some nice basics like a Forward Collision Mitigation System (FCM) with Pedestrian Detection, plus Apple CarPlay® and Android™ Auto, all powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with 78 horsepower. While you won’t break the sound barrier, this is a good option for everyday use.
- LE: (starting MSRP $17,845) With a minimal price increase, it’s not surprising that this is close to the base model ES, but you get small upgrades like fog lights and 15-inch alloy wheels.
- Black Edition (BE): (starting MSRP $18,445) The title kind of gives it away—you get an extra sleek and modern look with an all-black exterior and interior, including the detailing. You also get some of the same upgrades of the LE trim, like the 15-inch wheels.
- SE: (starting MSRP $18,945) This trim is all about the tech, like a push button start, automatic headlights, and side mirrors that give you turn indicators and can be folded out of the way for tight spaces. You also get more extras like fog lights and rain-sensing wipers.
This little Mitsubishi will give you a compact that still offers room for passengers or those groceries you bought on your way home. The smaller size can be a plus for finding parking on a crowded street, though you might have a tight fit when packing for vacation.

If you’re looking for something larger with seating for seven and lots of cargo room, then you want to consider the full-size Outlander.
Mitsubishi is more focused on SUVs overall, and you can see they are all in with the Outlander based on the sheer number of options they give you.
Let’s look at all of the variety of options you have for trims:
- ES: (starting MSRP $27,895) The base model gives you the standard features, like the 8-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA), a 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower, plus a host of safety features like Active Blind Spot Assist (ABSA) and Rear Automatic Emergency Braking (Rear AEB).
- SE: (starting MSRP $30,945) You get little upgrades with this trim, like a larger 9-inch Navigation System with Smartphone-Link Display Audio (SDA), heated synthetic suede seats. If you want even more upgrades, you can pick from several packages, including the Special Edition (starting MSRP $29,845) or Technology Package (starting MSRP $33,245).
- Black Edition: (starting MSRP $32,145) The main focus is in the looks department. You get an upgrade to a fully digital driver’s display, but really it’s about the all-black-everything. Both the interior and exterior go all in on the modern look.
- SEL: (starting MSRP $34,445) This trim gives you a digital driver’s display, leather seating, three-zone climate control, and unique color schemes. If you are interested in adding some other options, you have three packages to choose from, including the Touring Package (starting MSRP $36,645), the Premium Package (starting MSRP $37,145), or the Black Edition (starting MSRP $35,895).
- Ralliart: (starting MSRP $35,945) The main focus of this trim is a limited edition look that is not available in the other options. You’ll get special exterior details, like mud flaps and graphics on the outside of the vehicle, plus interior extras to match.
- 40th Anniversary Edition: (starting MSRP $40,295) You’ll see some upgrades like a 10.8-inch Head-Up Display (HUD), an improved speaker system, power panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, semi-aniline leather seating, and more if you’re looking for a bit of luxury with your SUV.
- PHEV: (starting MSRP $39,845 to $49,995) You can also choose a hybrid model of the Outlander trims above, except for the Black Edition. You’ll get an estimated 64 MPGe with the hybrid, more than double the 24 mpg city/31 mpg highway estimated gas mileage of the Outlander. If you want an SUV that helps save the planet and your wallet at the same time, consider getting the hybrid version of the trim level you’re interested in.

Don’t forget that your driving record, where you reside, if you have a more expensive model, and other factors all affect how much you pay for auto insurance. Compare several insurance quotes to learn what to expect and any additional options each company might provide before making your final choice.
What factors affect Mitsubishi car insurance rates?
Multiple factors change how car insurance is calculated, such as:
- Vehicle cost: Collision and comprehensive coverage are often lower for older vehicles, like a Mitsubishi Galant, than new cars, while a hybrid will be higher than a gas engine.
- Vehicle age: Buying a 2023 vehicle will increase your insurance rate more than a used model.
- Cost of parts: Replacement parts are imported from Japan, which adds up, while a hybrid car will also be pricier, so it can increase your premium.
- Your age: If you are under 25, you’ll get stuck with a higher bill since you have fewer driving hours under your belt, but senior drivers also face higher insurance rates from age 70 on.
- Your driving record and claims history: Expect to pay less if you have a good driving record, while a history of accidents or other violations will hurt your wallet.
- Where you live: Places with higher crime or accident rates, like metropolises, end up with higher costs for insurance.
Here are some other things that affect auto insurance rates for Mitsubishi:
- Materials: Mitsubishis can use more expensive parts since they are imported, while a hybrid will also add up.
- Safety: Mitsubishis are generally considered safe and even earned a safety top pick rating recently, plus they have a lot of safety features to help you out while driving, so insurance companies consider them less risky.
- Reliability: Mitsubishis are about average for reliability ratings, so they don’t have a known history of problems or recalls.
- Brand: Mitsubishi is not as well known as companies like Honda, which can make it a bit harder to access service or repair options for your auto, but it’s also not as expensive as a brand like BMW or other luxury vehicles.
Mitsubishi insurance cost for young drivers
Sorry, but if you’re a teen driver between 16 and 19, you’ll pay more for insurance versus other age groups. If you are a teen who drives a Mitsubishi, full coverage is the best auto insurance option to offset the higher accident rate.
Mitsubishi insurance cost for senior drivers
As you approach 70, expect car insurance bills to rise. With increased accident rates associated with older drivers, senior drivers’ auto insurance premiums are usually higher. Seniors are also more likely to experience severe injuries, which results in more medical bills. Auto insurance companies consider this a higher risk and offset their potential costs by charging you more.
Mitsubishi insurance cost for drivers with driving violations
Your driving history has an impact on the price of your Mitsubishi auto insurance. The least expensive coverage is reserved for drivers who don’t have any driving violations or at-fault accidents, but expect to start seeing higher bills if you’ve had any of the following in the last three to five years:
- At-fault accidents
- DUIs
- Driving on a suspended license
- Reckless driving
- Speeding tickets

Don’t worry, you can still save some green when insuring a Mitsubishi vehicle, regardless of your age, driving history, and more. Let’s look at a few tips:

- Participate in a telematics program: Some companies can track your driving habits with technology. If you show off those safe driving skills, you could earn a cut on your auto premium.
- Reduce your coverage: If you have an older Mitsubishi, consider cutting back on coverage to save money.
- Raise your deductible: Increasing your out-of-pocket deductible can save you on insurance premiums–just don’t go overboard.
