What does straddle mean in driving?

I’m currently in driver’s ed and my instructor keeps telling me I’m straddling the lanes. What does it mean to straddle while you’re driving?

When your instructor says you’re “straddling” the lane, they’re telling you that you’re not staying between the designated lines of your own lane. In other words, the vehicle is positioned over two lanes at once, which can be dangerous with other traffic—in fact, it’s a ticketable offense.
The best way to prevent this from happening is to keep your focus straight ahead. Remember—your car tends to go where your eyes go, so be sure to look in the direction you want to travel.
