Is it illegal to sleep in your car in Florida?

I’ve lived in Florida my entire life, but I haven’t really explored it. I want to take a month off to tour the state on a budget. Can I legally sleep in my car in Florida?

Yes, it’s perfectly legal to sleep in your car in
Florida
, but there are a few restrictions:
  • In certain towns and counties (like
    Key West
), it’s illegal to sleep in your car.
  • If you’re parked at a rest stop, there’s a three-hour parking limit.
  • If you’re on the highway, you can’t pull over and sleep on the shoulder, because it’s reserved for emergency vehicles.
  • If you’ve had a few drinks, you could be ticketed for sleeping in your car, even if it’s not moving.
Follow these rules and you’ll have a good night’s rest and a smooth trip. Happy road-tripping!
