How much does a clear coat respray cost?
I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler that belonged to my grandfather. The clear coat is peeling away on the hood and across some other panels. How much does a clear coat respray cost? I don’t have a big budget and don’t necessarily need the Jeep to be fully restored to its former glory.

Unfortunately, a professional clear coat respray will be pricey and may run you close to $3,000 and perhaps more, depending upon the condition of the
Jeep
. That said, there are other solutions. Without seeing the Jeep, it’s hard to say, but you might be able to get away with treating only the hood—or perhaps even just replacing it—which would keep costs down.
And, if you don’t care about having a professional-looking paint job, you might attempt to correct some of the flaws yourself by carefully sanding the peeling clear coat area with extra fine sandpaper. Then, you’ll need to spray on matching paint and reapply a clear coat.
However, be warned, that this process will probably not produce very professional-looking results.
So, enjoy your grandfather’s Jeep and consider your options. Who knows? With time, attention to detail, and a lot of research, a DIY respray job may turn out to be good enough. It certainly will save you a lot of money.
