Nowadays, most cars use keyfobs instead of their metal alternatives. But BMW’s come with an emergency key in the keyfob, just in case. Follow these steps to start your BMW with a mechanical key:
  • First, remove the emergency key from your key fob by pushing the button on the back of the keyfob and pulling it out.
  • You can use the key to unlock the driver’s side door. The
    car alarm
might go off, but don’t worry. It’ll turn off when you start the car.
  • If your BMW has an ignition, insert your key. If it doesn’t, put the key fob into the slot next to the steering column with the key symbol.
  • Next, press and hold the brake and press the Stop/Start button.
Once you’ve followed those steps, your car should start! If it still doesn’t work, your key might be defective, or you may have an issue with the ignition module. At that point, you should bring your car to a professional and have them take a look.
