Ranging between $400 and $2,250 on top of the starting prices for select BMWs, the Convenience package offers a number of special features to your vehicle of choice—including a panoramic moonroof, keyless entry, lumbar support, and heated seats.

Most BMWs are built with luxury and performance in mind, but when it comes to key features that typically appear in higher trim levels, you’ll have to opt for a Bimmer package. The Convenience package is among three main packages offered for select BMWs, and while it doesn’t add the most, it does include some practical aspects.

Here’s everything you need to know about the BMW Convenience package.

What is the BMW Convenience package?

The BMW Convenience package is an optional package available for select models and makes. You can add the Convenience package to the following BMWs, but note that each vehicle incurs a different package price and some include more or less features from the convenience list:

What it does

Long story short, the BMW Convenience package adds convenience to new Bimmers.

Features like keyless entry, lumbar support, and the panoramic sunroof are consistently seen across packages for eligible vehicles. But extras like auto-dimming mirrors and automatic high beams are only thrown in for some makes.

The true convenience of this package will depend on the vehicle you’re buying. For example, the BMW Series 3 and Series 4 only include keyless entry and lumbar support, whereas the X2 includes a panoramic moonroof, keyless entry, a universal garage door opener, power-folding mirrors, ambient lighting, lumbar support, and auto-dimming mirrors.

While keyless entry and lumbar support are constant in the package for most vehicles, they aren’t included in the BMW 5 Series Convenience package.

Each feature is designed to make driving easier for BMW owners, but with limited inclusions for some vehicles, the Convenience package might not be worth the money—especially when compared to other available packages. Let’s explore the price points for the Convenience package per each qualifying BMW, and other packages that might be worth a look.

How much is a BMW Convenience package?

The BMW Convenience package costs between $400 to $2,250 depending on the vehicle. Here are the added costs for the Convenience package in newer Bimmer models:

  • BMW X1: $1,950
  • BMW X2: $2,250
  • BMW X3: $1,650
  • BMW X4: $600
  • BMW 2 Series Coupe: $1,500
  • BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe: $1,650
  • BMW 3 Series: $550
  • BMW 4 Series: $600
  • BMW 5 Series: $600
  • BMW Z4: $550

Thankfully, the less features included in the Convenience package, the lower it costs to add to a vehicle. For reference, here are the starting base prices for BMWs that qualify for the Convenience package:

Is the Convenience package worth it?

The Convenience package may be worth it if you’re adding it to an X1, X2, or Series 2. These vehicles come with four or more convenience features, which give you a good collection of useful features.

But if you’re purchasing any of the other eligible vehicles, you may be better off opting for a Premium package. And if you’re going for a BMW with the favorable letter “M” in its name or a 7 Series, you’ll have the option of the Executive package.

The Premium and Executive packages are the two other main packages offered by BMW. These packages typically include the features offered by the Convenience package as well as additional tech, comfort, and design aspects. Prices are considerably higher for these packages, but they generally add more qualities on top of the convenience features.

To help you decide which package is right for you, here’s a rundown of the Premium and Executive packages compared to the Convenience package.

Convenience package vs. Premium Package

The Premium package is offered for all the same vehicles as the Convenience package, but you can also get it in a BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7, and BMW i4. Based on your selected BMW, the Premium package costs between $1,150 and $4,200.

In each vehicle, the Premium package builds on the Convenience package for a higher price. For example, X1 drivers can enjoy the features of the convenience package alongside a surround view 3D camera, an active park distance control system, BMW’s Parking Assistant Plus, and more.

Alternatively, the i4 gets a Premium package that reflects the Convenience package in other BMWs, including a heads-up display, heated front seats, ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, and lumbar support.

While each vehicle gets a different collection of add-ons for the Premium package, here’s a full list of the available features:

  • Live Cockpit Pro With Heads Up Display
  • Surround View 3D Camera
  • Harman Kardon Surround Sound System
  • Interior Camera
  • Panoramic Moonroof
  • Comfort Access Keyless Entry
  • Wireless Device Charger
  • Anti Theft Recorder
  • Universal Garage Door Opener
  • Parking Assistant Plus
  • Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror & Side Mirrors
  • Active Park Distance Control
  • Extended navigation display
  • Power-folding mirrors
  • Heated front seats
  • Ambient lights package
  • Lumbar support
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Extended central display
  • Wireless device charging
  • WiFi hotspot
  • Remote engine start
  • Harman Kardon surround sound system
  • Gesture control
  • Soft close automatic doors
  • Adaptive LED lights, automatic high beams
  • Power tailgate
  • Parking assistant plus

Convenience package vs. Executive Package

The Executive package is the third main package offered for BMWs. You can add the Executive package to vehicles like the M3, M4, M550i, M5, 7 Series, 5 Series, X3M, X4M, X5M, X6M, and the X5.

This package typically offers the contents of the Premium package (and Convenience package where applicable), plus some of the following features depending on your vehicle:

  • Gesture Control
  • Heads Up Display
  • Power Tailgate
  • Heated Steering Wheel
  • Front Ventilated Seats
  • Front Massage Seats
  • Remote Engine Start
  • Heated & Cooled Cupholders
  • Panoramic LED Roof

The Executive package has a starting price of $1,500 but typically costs around $2,600 to add to most vehicles.

The bottom line

BMW’s Convenience package adds extra comfort features that can take your ride to the next level, but it isn’t the only package that can amp up your tech and convenience features.

Before you opt for the Convenience package, be sure to take a look at the Premium package for a fuller collection of features. And if you’re going for a higher-level Bimmer, check out the Executive package.
