Liberty Mutual makes it easy to get an insurance ID card or a digital copy. Here’s how:
- Online: Log in to your Liberty Mutual account and navigate to the “Documents” tab in the top menu. You can then download and print the insurance ID card.
- App: Download the app via the Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store and log in to your account. You can then view your ID cards in the app. All states except New Mexico explicitly state their acceptance of a digital insurance ID card as proof of car insurance.
- Mail: If you prefer the traditional insurance ID card but can’t print a copy, you can request for it to be mailed to you — just call an agent at 1-800-290-8711.
If you have just bought an insurance policy from Liberty Mutual, you should receive a link in an email to access your insurance ID card. Be sure to download and print it out as soon as you can to place it in your car as proof of insurance.
What’s included on your Liberty Mutual insurance card
Having your Liberty Mutual ID card indicates that you carry the minimum required insurance coverage in your state and serves as your proof of financial responsibility. Your insurance ID card will not show the coverage, limits, or deductibles you have, but it will show the essential information below:
- The name and address of your insurance company (e.g. Liberty Mutual).
- The NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) number of the company.
- Your first and last name (under “named insured”).
- Your policy number.
- Your car’s details (i.e. make, model and vehicle identification number).
- The effective date and expiration date of your policy.
To view the details on your insurance policy, including the exact coverage amount and deductibles, you can access your declarations page on the Liberty Mutual website or in the app.
Can you show proof of insurance on your phone?
In situations that require you to show your insurance ID, such as traffic stops or after an accident, you can show proof of insurance on your phone in most states. Simply pull up the electronic ID card from the app or PDF file to show the law enforcement officer.
However, if you are in New Mexico, you will have to carry a traditional insurance card as the digital version is not accepted by the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

If you’re needing a copy of your Liberty Mutual Insurance ID card, head online to log-in to your account, use the mobile app or call customer service to get the documents. You’ll need to have your insurance ID card available while driving the vehicle either in physical form or in digital form (New Mexico does not allow digital versions).
