How'd we get these scores?

Jerry's experts conducted one of the largest car insurance surveys in the United States. We surveyed 15,000 policyholders, in all 50 states, over the span of 18 months. These policyholders hold insurance policies with 87 different insurance companies. We surveyed policyholders to gauge their satisfaction with their insurance carriers in: policy cost, customer service, buying and renewal experience, as well as claim experience. These scores were all reported by real customers of the insurance companies.
While these providers were some of the best in the city, it’s important to remember that no one insurer is best suited for every motorist. All providers use their own calculations to decide their rates—so, a premium that looks good to someone else may not be what you’re looking for.

Do you need more than minimum coverage in Wichita?

For the majority of Wichita drivers, springing for more than minimum coverage is in their best interest—full coverage helps protect you and your vehicle, but also saves you any future headaches in the form of medical expenses or vehicle repair after a crash.
It’s also worth remembering that
Kansas’ car accident laws
allow motorists to file for any bodily injury or property damage lawsuits up to two years after an accident, meaning your liability can stretch far past the actual crash date.
To ensure you have top protection in place, it’s recommended motorists carry 50/100/50 or 100/300/100 liability coverage—even if you choose not to opt for full coverage on your vehicle.

Full coverage
is the only way to keep yourself and your vehicle protected in the event of a serious accident, thanks to
comprehensive

Unlike minimum coverage, collision and comprehensive coverage handle the cost of repair or replacement to your vehicle should you crash into another object (like a guard rail or another car) or fall victim to things like natural disasters, falling objects, or theft.

Average cost of car insurance in Wichita

The average cost of Wichita car insurance ranges from $74 per month for state minimum coverage or $174 for full coverage policies.
However, it’s important to remember that an average cost is exactly that, and doesn’t reflect what everyone in a given area will pay. Companies determine rates based on a number of common factors including your age, driving history, ZIP code, and the kind of car you drive—different driving profiles means different rates across the board.

Average cost of car insurance in Wichita by zip code

Even if you’re in the same city, drivers can pay vastly different rates across varying neighborhoods. The reason why is that certain areas are prone to theft or vandalism, meaning auto insurance companies try to mitigate claims by charging more.
To give you a better idea, here’s how ZIP codes in the state area compare against each other.

Average cost of car insurance in Wichita by zip code

Even within the same city, car insurance rates vary based on where you live. Neighborhoods that experience more auto theft, car accidents, and other situations that can lead to insurance claims may be classified as “high-risk.”
Drivers living in these areas typically pay more than people in other parts of the city.

  • Speeding
  • DUIs
  • At fault accident

How to lower car insurance costs in Wichita

1. Shop around and compare quotes

The best way to guarantee that you’re getting the cheapest auto insurance rates is to comparison shop across providers. Remember that every driver’s profile is different, meaning average rates can drastically change across the board.
Jerry allows you to shop for and compare rates from some of the biggest companies, giving you a chance to find cheap auto insurance that best suits your needs.

2. Hunt for car insurance discounts

The majority of providers have plenty of discounts available to their clients—some of which require very little work on your end! You can always speak with an insurance agent at your current provider to learn more about what you qualify for.
Keep a lookout for discounts like:
  • Good driver discounts. If you have a clean record and haven’t filed any recent claims, you could qualify for a discount from your current provider.
  • Telematics discounts. Quite a few companies offer discounts to drivers who install telematics to track their driving habits. Oftentimes, motorists see savings just for signing up.
  • Good student discounts. Full-time students who maintain a B average or higher can qualify for a discount from some providers.
  • Bundling discounts. When you
bundle your auto and home insurance
(or an auto insurance policy with renters insurance) with the same provider, you could see savings on both policies.

3. Increase your deductible for comprehensive and collision coverage

If you have full coverage, a last ditch effort for affordable coverage could be to raise your deductible. However, this isn’t a go-to option and should only be considered if you can afford the increased rate.
