You’re minutes away from insurance savings.

Geico offers Emergency Roadside Service (ERS) as an add-on to a car insurance policy starting at $14 per car per year. You can request assistance through the Geico Mobile app or by calling (800) 424-3426. Here are the services offered:

  • Towing.
  • Battery jump starts (excluding EVs).
  • Tire changes.
  • Lockout services.
  • Winching.
  • Fuel delivery.

If you couldn’t call or request assistance, you can also get a reimbursement, subject to limits in your policy.

How to get service from Geico roadside assistance

You can typically expect Geico’s roadside assistance to arrive within an hour, depending on your location. There are two ways to request the service:

  • Use the mobile app: Geico says you can request for help in as little as two minutes. The app also has some features not available by calling the helpline including GPS reporting of your breakdown location and app-based updates on the tow truck’s location.
  • Call: Geico’s 24/7 roadside assistance phone number is 1-800-424-3426.

Keep in mind: If you’re in a car accident, your tow will generally be covered through your collision insurance or the at-fault driver’s liability coverage — not your roadside assistance.

Here’s what Geico roadside assistance covers

Geico offers one level of emergency roadside assistance — also called towing and labor coverage — as an add-on to your car insurance policy.

Here’s what will be covered:

  • Towing: This service will get your car to the nearest qualified repair shop within 20 miles.
  • Battery jump starts: If you have a dead battery, roadside assistance will be there to give you a boost. Note that Geico doesn’t offer battery charging for electric vehicles (EVs).
  • Tire changes: If you get a flat tire, Geico will change it for you as long as you have a functioning spare.
  • Lockout services: Keys locked in your car? Geico will cover up to $100 of locksmith services.
  • Winching: If your vehicle gets stuck on or immediately next to a publicly maintained roadway, roadside assistance will help pull you free.
  • Fuel delivery: If you run out of gas, roadside assistance will provide enough fuel to get you to a gas station or your destination.

Every request for emergency road service has limits laid out in your automobile policy. For example, in an amendment filed with the Missouri government, Geico states that policies are:

  • They will pay for reasonable expenses the insured party incurs for owned or non-owned autos.
  • Limited to one hour of mechanical labor at the place of breakdown.
  • Lockout is limited to $100 if the keys are lost, broken or locked in the car.
  • Geico does not pay for gas, loaned battery or change of tires.

Your policy and location may change the details of your exact coverage.

How Geico roadside assistance reimbursement works

You may be forced to get roadside assistance without going through Geico. For example, in New York or Houston, you have to use towing companies designated by local authorities.

In this case, keep the original road service bill, and send it to Geico. They will send you a reimbursement check or an electronic funds transfer in some cases.

  • Email: towingrefund@geico.com
  • Fax: (866) 954-3761
  • Mail: GEICO, Emergency Road Service, P.O. Box 8075, Macon, GA 31208-8075

Geico’s ERS billing phone number is 800-522-7775.

Repairs must be made to the vehicle before it is eligible for a subsequently covered tow.

Geico might place an overarching dollar limit to all services if you go through the reimbursement method. For example, in an auto policy amendment based in Missouri, Geico said that “up to a limit of $50 will apply”.

How can I check my claim status for Geico?

To check your claim status at Geico, you can use the Geico mobile app. Alternatively, you can also visit the Geico Claims page. Make sure to have your claim number ready.

Is Geico’s emergency road service worth it?

Geico offers roadside assistance as an add-on to your insurance policy starting at $14 a year per vehicle. If you have a multi-vehicle policy, be prepared to pay the annual rate for each car on your Geico policy.

If you’re a frequent traveler or drive long distances, Geico’s roadside assistance could be a valuable addition to your current Geico policy and provide you with peace of mind.

Since roadside assistance is optional, you can shop around. A major competitor is AAA’s membership which offers similar roadside assistance sometimes at a cheaper rate, especially if you have multiple vehicles.

Does using Geico roadside assistance count as a claim?

Geico’s roadside assistance is an add-on to your policy so it will generate a claim number, but it’s classified as a roadside assistance-only claim. It’s unlikely that your premiums will be affected by using roadside assistance but it’s best to talk to a Geico agent if you’re concerned about this.
