GEICO offers roadside assistance for around $14 a year, but the coverage pales in comparison with what AAA’s plan covers.

You’re minutes away from insurance savings.

GEICO offers Emergency Roadside Service (ERS) as an add-on to your car insurance policy for $14 per car per year. To get a quote, call (800) 424-3426 or log in to your online GEICO account.

Here’s what GEICO roadside assistance covers

GEICO offers one level of emergency roadside assistance—also called towing and labor coverage—as an add-on to your car insurance policy. Here’s a list of what will be covered:

  • Towing: This service will get your car to the nearest repair shop.
  • Battery jump starts: If you have a dead battery, roadside assistance will be there to give you a boost! Note that GEICO doesn’t offer battery charging for electric vehicles (EVs).
  • Tire changes: If you get a flat tire, GEICO will change it for you as long as you have a functioning spare.
  • Lockout services: Keys locked in your car? No problem! GEICO will cover up to $100 of locksmith services.
  • Winching: If your vehicle gets stuck on or immediately next to a publicly maintained roadway, roadside assistance will help pull you free.
  • Fuel delivery: If you run out of gas, roadside assistance will provide enough fuel to get you on your way.

GEICO policyholders can add roadside assistance coverage to their existing comprehensive insurance (i.e. full coverage insurance) plan.

Unlike other providers, you’ll have to pay the annual rate per car—not per policy. So if you and your partner and teenager all have vehicles on the same plan, you’ll have to pay for roadside assistance for three cars.

How to get service from GEICO roadside assistance

You should expect GEICO roadside assistance to arrive within an hour. There are multiple ways to request the service:

  • Use the mobile app: The app can connect you with 24/7 towing services and takes less than two minutes to use. There’s also a tracker to let you know how close your tow truck is and a GPS locator so that roadside assistance knows exactly where to find you.
  • Call: GEICO’s 24/7 roadside assistance phone number is 1 (800) 424-3426.

If for some reason you cannot contact GEICO through the app or by phone, you can claim reimbursement for using a local tow service—as long as you already have roadside assistance on your plan.

Keep in mind:If you’re in a car accident, your tow will generally be covered through your collision insurance or the at-fault driver’s liability coverage—not your roadside assistance.

GEICO roadside assistance costs around $14

GEICO offers roadside assistance as an add-on to your insurance policy for around $14 a year per vehicle. You’ll see a slight increase in your premium once you opt for roadside assistance.

If you have a multi-vehicle policy, be prepared to pay the annual rate for each car on your GEICO policy. Even though GEICO’s roadside assistance is affordable, it doesn’t have as many services or perks as an auto club membership.

GEICO roadside assistance vs. AAA: How does it stack up?

Wen you think of roadside assistance, AAA will likely come to mind. Joining AAA for roadside assistance will give you access to towing and labor services, as well as discounts with businesses and other perks.

Here are some of the main differences between GEICO and AAA roadside assistance:

GEICOAAA
Has one of the lowest rates for roadside assistanceStarts at $59.99 and other providers charge as much as $150 a year
Provides one level of coverage that is available as an add-on to your policyOffers travel and hotel discounts, plus up to 200 miles of towing, free one-day car rentals, and free passport photos, depending on your tier

The verdict? It’s usually cheaper and more convenient to have your roadside assistance through your insurance company, but you’ll forgo the bonuses that come with an auto club membership.

Is GEICO roadside assistance worth it?

If you’re a frequent traveler or drive long distances, GEICO’s roadside assistance could be a valuable addition to your current GEICO policy and provide you with peace of mind.
