How’d we get these scores?
Jerry’s experts conducted one of the largest car insurance surveys in the United States. We surveyed 15,000 policyholders, in all 50 states, over the span of 18 months. These policyholders hold insurance policies with 87 different insurance companies. We surveyed policyholders to gauge their satisfaction with their insurance carriers in: policy cost, customer service, buying and renewal experience, as well as claim experience. These scores were all reported by real customers of the insurance companies.
Insurance costs for popular Ford models
The specific type of Ford model you drive significantly impacts your auto insurance costs. Major influencing factors on your insurance rate are:
- Safety features: Ford models with superior safety ratings, such as the Ford Explorer and the Bronco Sport, typically have lower insurance costs.
- Vehicle value: Cars with high value cost more to insure, which is why high-performance models like the Mustang GT have higher insurance costs than a base model F-150.
- Vehicle class: Compact SUVs like the Escape and EcoSport are typically the least expensive to insure, while sports cars, large sedans, and electric or hybrid vehicles usually cost more.
- Engine size: Vehicles with larger engines and more horsepower are associated with a higher risk of speeding and accidents, thereby increasing coverage costs. For instance, the F-150 Raptor’s 450-horsepower V6 engine leads to higher insurance costs than a standard base model F-150 with a 290-horsepower V6.
- Availability of replacement parts: If you drive a less common Ford model or one that’s difficult to find parts for—like a hybrid, electric vehicle, or a vintage model—your insurance premiums may be steeper.
- Cost of repairs: High-end models, hybrids, and the 2023 Ford electric lineup will all be more expensive to repair (and insure) than popular models like the Escape or standard F-series models.
Check out the table below to see the average cost of auto insurance for some popular Ford models.

---|---|---|

Minimum coverage insurance is the minimum amount of coverage required in your state by law. Typically, it includes basic liability insurance with relatively low limits for both bodily injury and property damage liability.
Full-coverage insurance offers a more robust financial safety net. It includes collision and comprehensive coverage, providing financial security in case of injury to yourself and damage to your own vehicle, as well as other vehicles and passengers involved in an accident.

Premium trim levels like the Raptor and Limited tend to have higher repair and replacement costs, making them costlier to insure. Check out the table below to see the average cost of auto insurance for a few sought-after Ford F-150 trims.

Are Fords more expensive to insure?
On average, Ford insurance premiums are 4% less compared to the average cost of other cars.
Ford insurance costs can vary greatly depending on the specific model you drive. Moreover, costs are heavily influenced by the vehicle’s risk factors such as safety ratings, repair costs, likelihood of theft, value, and age.
For example, a Ford with expensive repair costs and poor safety ratings will likely be cheaper to insure than another vehicle in the same price range that has excellent safety ratings and low repair costs.

---|---|---|
Mini | $90 | $166 |

Cheapest Fords to insure
Among Ford models, the most affordable one to insure is the 2019 Ford Edge. On average, state minimum coverage comes with a monthly premium of $42, while full coverage costs $168.
Car Make | Average Monthly State Minimum Insurance Cost | Average Monthly Full Coverage Insurance Cost |
---|---|---|
2014 Ford F-350 | $135 | $236 |

2022 Ford Edge | $135 | $166 |
2018 Ford F-250 | $135 | $199 |
Powerful and sleek Ford models such as the Mustang GT and F-150 Raptor often come with higher insurance costs due to expensive repairs, increased accident risk related to speeding, and their appeal to thieves. Newer Ford models with advanced technology and luxury features also tend to have higher insurance premiums due to their overall higher value.
Moreover, despite their impressive safety features, larger Ford vehicles such as SUVs and trucks can lead to higher insurance rates as they have the potential to cause more damage in accidents, resulting in increased liability costs. Examples of larger Ford models that may come with higher insurance costs include the Ford Expedition and Ford F-350.
Remember, when determining car insurance costs, your driving history, location, and other personal details play a significant role. Don’t settle for just average rates—discover the best coverage by shopping for personalized insurance quotes.
What factors affect Ford car insurance rates?
Several factors impact how car insurance rates are calculated, including:
- Vehicle cost: Luxury, high-performance, and sports cars generally have higher collision and comprehensive coverage costs.
- Vehicle age: Newer models often come with higher insurance rates due to advanced tech and higher value.
- Cost of parts: Expensive or rarer models can lead to increased replacement and repair costs, posing a higher risk for insurance companies.
- Your age: Drivers under the age of 25 and senior drivers above the age of 70 may face higher insurance rates due to limited driving experience or potential health-related concerns, respectively.
- Driving record and claims history: A clean driving record usually results in lower insurance rates, while a history of accidents, tickets, and violations may lead to higher rates.
- Vehicle location: Insurance costs vary depending on where your car is kept, as factors such as road conditions, population density, and theft rates differ across states and cities.
Here are a few specific factors that impact auto insurance rates for Ford:
- Domestic production: The majority of Ford vehicles are manufactured in the U.S., which often means lower replacement costs compared to imported models.
- Safety: Ford is known for introducing innovative and advanced safety features into their vehicles, which have performed generally well in safety tests.
- Reliability: Ford vehicles are built to last and withstand tough conditions, which can result in a lower rate of claims as they experience fewer breakdowns and durability issues.
- Availability: As one of the most popular brands in the nation, Ford parts are readily available and often less expensive than parts for less popular brands. This can contribute to lower repair costs in the event of a claim, thereby keeping insurance premiums more affordable.
- Performance: Some Ford models, such as the Mustang, are performance-oriented. Performance vehicles might attract more aggressive driving and thus potentially higher insurance rates due to increased risk of accidents.
Ford insurance cost for young drivers
Insurance rates for teen drivers aged 16 to 19 are often the highest among all age groups. For young car owners, particularly those with their own Mustang, having full coverage offers a vital safety net as they venture out onto the open road. Given their higher accident rates, adding comprehensive and collision coverage will help protect both the driver and their beloved Ford.
Ford insurance cost for senior drivers
As you enter your mid-70s, car insurance expenses start to increase. Higher car insurance rates for seniors are due to:
- Decline in reflexes and reaction times
- Age-related health conditions affecting driving abilities
- Higher accident risk
- Increased likelihood of severe injuries
- Greater medical expenses for injuries
By understanding these factors, seniors can take proactive steps to explore their insurance, including seeking eligibility for insurance program discounts and taking additional safety measures.
Ford insurance cost for drivers with driving violations
Insurance rates for Ford vehicles also adjust to your driving record. If you are a Ford driver with no infractions or at-fault accidents, you’ll likely enjoy the lowest rates. However, any of the following violations within the last three to five years could cause a surcharge on your coverage:
- Speeding tickets
- DUIs
- At-fault accidents
- Reckless driving
- Driving on a suspended license
Cheapest car insurance for Ford drivers with speeding ticket
A single ticket for exceeding the speed limit by less than five miles per hour might not significantly alter your Ford insurance premiums. Frequent tickets or a single serious speeding violation, however, could lead to a steep increase in your rates. Fortunately, Jerry is committed to helping Ford drivers with all types of speeding tickets save on car insurance.

How can I lower the cost of my Ford car insurance?
There’s no magic to savings, but a blend of smart decisions can reduce your Ford insurance costs. Here’s how to tread the path of savings.
- Compare quotes: Take the time to shop for insurance coverage. Jerry allows you to compare quotes from over 50 leading insurance companies to find coverage that fits your budget. All you need is 5 minutes to sign up.
- Shop wisely: When buying a new Ford, do your model research. Vehicles with high safety ratings, such as the Ford Escape or Ford Edge, are typically less expensive to insure compared to high-performance models like the Mustang.
- Bundle and save: If you’re juggling multiple insurance policies, consider bundling them with the same company. A home and auto insurance bundle, for example, can lead to substantial savings.
- Use Ford’s Co-Pilot360: Ford’s advanced driver-assist technology, Co-Pilot360, not only makes your journey safer but could also lower your insurance rates.
- Check for discounts: Most insurance companies offer a range of car insurance discounts, but eligibility can vary—see what you qualify for with your current insurer!
- Trim coverages: If your Ford has seen a lot of highways or off-roading trails, consider reducing your coverage. If your car’s value is less than 10 times the premium you’re paying, you might be overinsured.
- Boost your deductible: Consider raising your deductible—the amount you pay in an insurance claim before your coverage steps in. This simple tweak can lead to lower monthly insurance payments, leaving more money in your pocket for your next road trip!
Additionally, while it won’t drop your insurance rates, the FordPass app can potentially save you money. Some of the features on the free app include:
- Fuel rewards: Earn discounts on fuel purchases.
- Maintenance alerts: Address maintenance needs early to prevent costly repairs.
- Parking assistance: Find and reserve spots to potentially save on fees.
- Remote vehicle controls: Reduce idling and save on fuel.
- FordPass Rewards: Earn points for discounts on future purchases or services.
