It can certainly be frustrating to have a new light show up on your dash.
If you haven’t already, though, you should definitely visit a shop to get your oil changed. The mechanic will reset the oil life indicator in your 2007 Honda Accord for you.
Getting your oil changed is really important to the health of your engine, especially if your indicator is showing low oil.
If you want to reset the oil life yourself, however, here’s how to do it:
Turn the ignition to RUN, which is one click before starting the engine.
Once the instrument cluster is on, press the SELECT/RESET knob (also referred to as the trip button) in the instrument cluster until you see the engine oil life indicator.
Press and hold the trip button for 10 seconds, or until the engine oil life indicator and the maintenance code starts to blink.
Release the trip button, then press and hold it again for five seconds, or until the maintenance items code disappears and the engine oil life returns to 100%.
To ensure that the indicator has reset, turn the ignition off and back on.
If you’re instead talking about the red oil light on your dash, this cannot be reset. It’s a signal that something significant is wrong with your car, such as low oil pressure or an oil leak. You should check your oil level and take your car to a mechanic immediately if this is the case.
