Kia America
sold its ten-millionth vehicle earlier this month: An electric EV6 in Runway Red, sold to Monti Charoenphong at Car Pros Kia Moreno Valley in Moreno Valley, California.
The Korean company, which started selling in the United States in 1993 with just two models, is highlighting this milestone through some charitable donations,
according to a press release.
It’s fitting that the company reached this goal through the sale of an electric vehicle, a small piece in a rapidly growing market that continues to garner interest and investment.

Kia celebrates by giving back

Kia will celebrate its ten-millionth American sale with a series of charitable donations given as part of its “Accelerate the Good” initiative. This includes $10,000 donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association, and Freedom Service Dogs of America.
Additionally, it will give Ms. Charoenphong and her family the red 2022 EV6 as a gift and invite them to attend an event at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.
"Selling 10 million vehicles is a significant achievement and we at Kia are proud not only how far we've come, but also what the future has in store as we continue our push for sustainable mobility leadership," said Sean Yoon, president & CEO of Kia North America and Kia America.

Kia’s award-winning electric vehicles

The 2022 EV6 that served as Kia’s ten-millionth sale was also named the year’s
best electric vehicle by U.S. News
, just one of the awards the company has won so far this year:
The 2022
Rio S
, an affordable subcompact hatchback, won the Vincentric Best Fleet Value in America award in the Subcompact Hatchback category for having the lowest overall maintenance and repair costs in its class.
The 2022 Carnival MPV, which lands somewhere between SUV and minivan, was named “Family Vehicle of the Year” by Hispanic Motor Press. Ricardo Rodriguez-Long, founder and president of Hispanic Motor Press, said the car “offers a tremendous value proposition” and praised its “spacious and comfortable interior, quiet ride, and advanced driver assistance features.”

Automakers are investing in an electric future

This news comes as gas prices reach all-time highs and electric vehicle sales help automakers break records. Though hybrid and electric vehicles made up
just 4.4% of total new car sales
in 2021, companies are investing heavily in a future full of electric vehicles.
Earlier this month, Kia’s parent company Hyundai Motor Group detailed its plan to invest more than 10 billion dollars in innovative development in the United States, including a 5.5-billion dollar electric vehicle and battery manufacturing facility in Georgia. The facility is set to break ground in 2023 and begin production in 2025 with an annual production capacity of 300,00 units.
