Travel forecasts are heating up, with the majority planning excursions this spring (52%) and summer (70%).
Many consumers have a bright outlook towards the upcoming summer months, with 83% anticipating that 2022 will be their best summer ever—and they plan on spending it at the beach.
One in five respondents indicated that if they could arrange their dream vacation in the coming months, they would go to the beach, followed by a cruise trip and a city sightseeing tour.
A number of people polled said they would be willing to give up things in order to go abroad; 21% would sacrifice their morning coffee, followed by their fave food, laptop, and eating out for a year. 18% even said they would give up intimacy for the perfect vacay.
Vacation trend is spend, spend, spend
Many people saved money that would have been spent on annual vacations by staying put during the pandemic or choosing to travel close to home.
When asked what they would do with their savings, nearly half (44%) said they would spend them on a big purchase, followed by rent or a deposit on a new home (41%) and rewarding themselves (29%).
Additionally, as a direct result of the pandemic, the majority of respondents (68%) are browsing for vacations more frequently, 64% are willing to spend more, and 63% aim to organise a bucket list trip sooner than expected.
Ridin’ solo sounding better than ever
From hotels to airlines and everything in between, the post-pandemic recovery has impacted all sectors, resulting in lengthier hold times, lineups, and delays. This signals that it will take some time to return to pre-pandemic levels.
And not only has travel changed forever, but so has the traveler. 33% of respondents said they would be more willing to travel alone post-COVID. Of those who take a vacation at least once per year, 1 in 4 are more inclined to take short-distance trips after the pandemic.
In terms of preferences, 43% of American travellers are seeking out relaxation, 36% bleisure (or business-leisure), and 33% exploration.
