Tennessee boasts more than 40 wineries spread throughout the state with the vast majority, including local favorites like Arrington Vineyards and Mountain Valley Winery, located in Central and Eastern Tennessee, respectively.
For most people, Tennessee’s most famous drink is whiskey, but the state is quickly establishing itself as a producer of award-winning wines as well. Broken into three regions—West, Middle, and East—Tennessee has become famous for a variety of grape and fruit wines, often intimately tied to the soil and weather conditions of the region in which they’re grown.

This remote winery is located on 90 acres of farmland and vineyards and includes a large tasting room, outdoor patio, and romantic loft overlooking the vines, all of which are open year-round, and available to rent for events and weddings.
Pro Tip Tennessee liquor sales laws only allow for wineries to sell prepackaged food items. This is why you’ll see cheeses, fruits, preserves, and charcuterie on offer, but never a full menu. Check ahead to see if a food truck will be on-sight the day of your visit, or consider bringing a picnic if you’re looking to turn your visit into a meal.

Joey and Gail Chessor opened the beloved
Grinder’s Switch Winery in 2006 and have been producing award-winning wines ever since. Located in the heart of Middle Tennessee in the rolling hills of Hickman County, the winery is surrounded by 110 acres of trees and farmland supporting a seven-acre Muscadine vineyard from which they produce many of their customers’ favorites, including the
award-winning Blondy. The tasting room resides in the cozy hand-built log cabin that was once the family home.
The original Grinder’s Switch Winery, like most Middle Tennessee wineries, is really remote. To cater to customers in more urban settings, Joey and Gail opened a satellite location in Nashville’s historic
Marathon Village. Guests are welcome to visit or plan a private tasting event.
Nearby: If you visit the
Nashville location, you’ll have all that the city has to offer right at your fingertips. If you choose to travel out to the original Grinder’s Switch Winery, we suggest making it part of a Middle-Tennessee wineries tour with a stop at the relatively nearby Keg Springs before heading east to round out your tour at Arrington Vineyards.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic, buy a bottle or two and relax outside on the covered deck, complete with grapevines trellised through the railings. Locals love all their wines, but the
Vidal Blanc and
Monk’s Blackberry are particular favorites. The venue features live music on the second and fourth weekends of each month throughout the summer.
Nearby: Like Grinder’s Switch Winery, Keg Springs Winery is exceptionally remote, but its proximity to the Natchez Trace makes it the perfect stop when you’re out for a road trip up or down the historic roadway.

Arrington features 16 acres of vineyards, five tasting rooms, shady picnic areas, and an outdoor stage hosting live music every weekend from April to November. The winery produces 22 award-winning wines onsite including a 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon that won Double Gold medals for Best Cabernet Sauvignon and Best Red Vinifera at the
2021 American Wine Society Competition.

historic Franklin, TN, just 20 minutes west of Arrington on Hwy 96. Enjoy expertly prepared steaks paired with wines from a list of over 100 bottles at
Cork & Cow, then cozy up for the night at one of Franklin’s countless historic inns and B&Bs.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday
Fees: $7/person for 6 pours; $14/person for 12 pours
Lookout Winery and Pizzeria has hacked the system when it comes to selling fresh food at a Tennessee winery—open a restaurant next door. Guests can enjoy 6- or 12-pour tastings at the tasting bar or head next door to enjoy wood-fired pizzas, salads, and desserts along with wines by the glass or the bottle.
Lookout’s wines are made with
California grapes, but they’re fermented and bottled on-property by the Bordogna family. While the wine and food are fabulous, many come to Lookout just for the views—you can see three states from their hill-top patio!
Nearby: Lookout’s pizzas are known for miles around, but if you’re looking for something a bit less Italy and a bit more Tennessee, check out local favorite
Tupelo Honey for modern takes on down-home Southern cooking.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
