Pennsylvania is home to 14 drive-in movie theatres that screen a variety of movies—from cult favorites to family-friendly hits to classics from the Golden Age of Hollywood.  Whichever you choose to visit, a trip to the drive-in is more than a night at the movies, it’s an adventure. 
Pennsylvania’s drive-ins are located across the state, so you’ll likely be able to find a theater close to you! Most of the theaters are pet-friendly and have snacks available on-site.

Mahoning Drive-In

The
Mahoning Drive-In
was built in 1948 and opened for business the following season.  Offering an exclusively retro 35mm film program on original 1940s era reel-to-reel Simplex Projectors, the Mahoning has been screening features on Pennsylvania’s largest CinemaScope screen for more than half a century.

Movies

The Mahoning specializes in cult classics and boasts an inventive slate of events each season.  Interested visitors can visit the website to view promotions for events like Bat-Mania, Zombie Fest I-VI, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Max, Rocky Balboa Bash, Destroy All Monsters, Schlock-O-Rama, and many, many more.  

How to hear the movie

Tune into 89.3 FM for movie sound. Beginning at 6 PM, DJs spin tunes until the movie starts. If you are worried about battery drain or want to sit outside under the stars, portable radios are welcome.
Phone radio apps and Bluetooth speakers will not work due to a delay in the signal.

Snacks

The Mahoning boasts a full
concession stand
selling reasonably priced drinks and snacks like water and soda, candy and popcorn, burgers and dogs, nachos, fries, and chicken fingers.  There are even some frozen treats like popsicles and ice cream, and a Gremlin movie prop behind the counter. (The Gremlin is not for sale.)  
Pro tip: The Mahoning Drive-In also offers
overnight camping
for those who don’t live nearby or simply want to extend their movie-going experience. All cars must park in the overnight camping lot, and are not allowed in the tent area. Also, no grills or open flames, RVs, or generators are allowed.  

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre

Schedule: Open April-September, rain or shine, with special Halloween events in October most years
Ticket prices: $10 Adult for double features and holiday triple features; $4 children ages 3-12, $5 children ages 3-12 for holiday triple features.  Credit cards accepted.

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre
prides itself in being a family-friendly venue, complete with a playground area to keep kids busy until the first feature lights up the screen. Cumberland has posted a full list of
policies
so all visitors can enjoy a stellar viewing experience.  
While not required, The Cumberland does accept
reservations
, a huge bonus for guests traveling long distances or those hoping to catch a triple feature. Of the lot’s 400 spaces, 175 of those can be reserved. The reservation deadline is 4 PM. Due to long lines, it is suggested guests arrive at least 20 minutes before showtime. 
Spaces between posts are designed for two cars. To be courteous to other guests, movie-goers are asked not to spread out into the next space. Guests are encouraged to sit outside their vehicles, but lawn chairs and blankets are to be set up in front of your vehicle, not beside it.  
Vehicles taller than six feet must park in the rear of the lot.

The Cumberland mostly screens family-friendly features rated G, PG, or PG-13. 

How to hear the movie

Film audio can be heard by tuning your dial to 88.7 FM.  For those who prefer to sit outside, or fear running down their car battery, radios can be rented for $2 with a required $20 deposit or a valid driver’s license.

Super 322 Drive-In Theatre

Ticket prices: $8 adults, $5 for kids 3-11, free for kids 2 and under; Box office opens at 7:30, show starts at dusk

This single-screen drive-in first opened in 1950. Located in the dead center of the state, it is a 40-minute drive from Penn State.  
Situated on Route 322, the mission of
Super 322 Drive-In
is to keep the drive-in experience alive for generations to come. Deeply rooted in its history, the Super 322 has been purposefully updated and restored over the years.
In 2001, the Super 322 was granted eligibility to be listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. In 2005 one of the original pink neon signs was restored and reinstalled on the marquee. The ramps have also been graded and reshaped to ensure prime viewing for every guest.  Finally, in 2014, the projector was converted to digital, and the theatre currently boasts the record for brightest light on the planet.

Tune your radio to 88.5 on the FM dial, or 640 AM. Please no loud radios tuned to another radio station or playing your own CDs, cassettes, or streaming playlists. 

Snacks

The owners remind guests that their support of the

is vital to the survival of the Super 322. Outside food is permitted with a food/beverage permit purchased at the ticket office for $13.00 per car.  
Pro tip: Super 322 accepts credit cards at the concession stand, but CASH ONLY at the ticket office. This also applies to food/beverage permits. Alcohol is permitted, but glass bottles and kegs are not.

No, most drive-in moviegoers do not leave their cars running during the movie. As you pull into your spot, let the engine run for a few minutes to give it sufficient charge to last the movie.
