background
Although Mississippi had over 70 drive-in movie theaters in the 1950s, there’s only one left standing today: the Iuka Drive-In in Tishomingo County at the northern edge of the state.
The 1950s were the golden age of drive-in movie theaters, but in the decades since this mode of entertainment has seen a serious decline. Even in areas with year-round warm weather, like Mississippi, it’s hard to find a theater that offers the quintessential drive-in experience.

Opened in 1957, the Iuka Drive-In Theater is the only surviving drive-in movie theater in the state of Mississippi. With a capacity of just 100 cars, it’s also one of the smallest drive-ins in the country!

Movies

The Iuka Drive-In plays recent releases, typically as double features. You can check the theater’s
website
or their Facebook page for information on movies playing soon. If you only want to see one half of a double feature, you’ll have the option to arrive late or leave after the first movie plays.

How to hear the movie

You can use your car’s FM radio to tune into the audio for the movie. If you’re worried about draining your car’s battery, it’s a good idea to bring a portable FM radio to access movie audio.

Snacks

The menu at the Iuka Drive-In’s concession stand sticks to the classics: buttered popcorn, chili dogs, and nachos washed down with soft drinks and lemonade. As a small business, the theater encourages moviegoers to purchase snacks at the concession stand instead of bringing in outside food. Luckily, their affordable prices make that easy!
Pro tip: Upgrade your nachos to “hearty nachos” for just $2 extra!
