The

ACD Automobile Museum

can be overwhelming, with 17 exhibits listed online but 23 highlights listed on their maps within the 80,000-square-foot building. Here’s a sneak peek into some of the exhibits you can find inside.

Original Company Showroom Duesenberg: The Evolution of America's Finest Motorcar

After purchasing tickets, you’ll find yourself in the Original Company Showroom. This 12,000-foot room is art deco at its finest, with a grand spiral staircase, geometric terrazzo floor, and Italian chandeliers.

Check out the Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg classic vehicles on display as they would've been in the 1930s.

Special exhibits also are hosted in this room, like the current display of Duesenberg: The Evolution of America's Finest Motorcar.

There are also concept cars on display, including the model A, model X, Model Y, and Model J. These cars highlight the history of the first straight-eight-cylinder engine and four-wheel hydraulic brakes in America.

Hall of Excellence and Innovation and the Gallery of Special Interest Automobiles

This room once housed the engineering department and now it’s home to luxurious cars on display from around the world and Full Classics™.

These cars meet strict standards and receive this label from Classic Car Club of America. Don’t miss the famous 1911 Métallurique, 1933 Checker Cab, and 1916

Hall of Technology

The Auburn Automotive Company played a huge role in the evolution of car safety. The Hall of Technology is an ode to that legacy. In particular, do not miss the L-29 Chassis, Cord 810 engine, and Dual Ratio. These innovations led to the front-wheel-drive and hydraulic brakes we know today.

In this gallery, check out the designs of the Cord 810 and follow the creative process of Gordon Buehrig and his team, including rescued 1938 designs the company was thought to have destroyed.

From Eckhart Carriage Company

Before Auburn, there was Eckhart, maker of the first horseless carriages.

According to the Horseless Carriage Club of America, these cars are any motorized vehicles produced before 1916. They were steamed powered with speeds between 3-12 miles per hour.

Frustrated and fed up at being unable to afford a horseless carriage, Frank Eckart tried to make his own, leading to the birth of the Auburn Car Company. The company sold their first 50 horseless carriages in 1903.

John Dillinger, Hoosier Hoodlum (special exhibit until September 2022)

Do you love true crime? Then the John Dillinger special exhibit is a must-see for you. It’s currently located in the Cars of Indiana Gallery.

In 1933, John Dillinger robbed the Auburn Police Department and stole ammo, bulletproof vests, and a Thompson machine gun that has found its way back to Auburn and this museum.
