Second only to
California
, Washington is one of the biggest wine producers in the United States. Its best wineries are located in the Columbia Valley, an American Viticultural Area (AVA) that covers more than one-third of Washington state and fully encompasses several smaller AVAs, including Walla Walla Valley.
Washington
is home to 19 AVAs overall. The state is best known for its cabernet sauvignons and merlots, though lovers of white wines may prefer its chardonnays and rieslings. Washington is quickly gaining international renown for its wines, and if you want to go wine tasting in the state, you'll have over 1,000 wineries to choose from.
Do you have a Washington trip on your mind? When you go, don't sleep on the wine.
