The best times of year to travel to Las Vegas

Spring and fall are the best seasons for a visit to Las Vegas. The weather is pleasantly warm but not scorching. During March, April, May, and October, the crowds are scarce and the prices are low.
Travelers on a budget may wish to visit Las Vegas during the winter off-season (November and February). Temperatures dip during these months, but there’s still plenty to do!

Peak season: January to April, October, holidays

The good: Lots of activities and events
The bad: Higher prices, bigger crowds
The weather: 40s to low 70s
Peak season in Las Vegas is from January to April, plus October and the winter holidays
Daytime temperatures are far more comfortable during these months (summers get extremely hot), so most conferences take place during this time. Plus, Vegas puts on some incredible themed holiday events, especially around Halloween and Christmas.
In January, there are two popular conferences in Vegas: The Consumer Electronics Show (not open to the public) and the Adult Entertainment Expo. There’s also the photogenic
Hot Air Balloon Festival
in Mesquite, a short trip from the city.
February and March are all about sports. You can attend a Super Bowl viewing party, marvel at the Vegas Shoot indoor archery competition, cheer on the NASCAR Cup Series, and participate in March Madness.
Pool party season begins in March, too. The best parties are
Daylight at Mandalay Bay
and you can enjoy great views at Drai’s Beach Club.
Once the weather warms up in April, you can find more outdoor events. There’s the
City of Lights Jazz Festival
at the Clark County Government Amphitheater and the Great Vegas Festival of Beer. Vegas typically hosts the Academy of Country Music Awards, too.
Skipping ahead to the holidays, Oktoberfest is famous (make sure to visit
Hofbrauhaus
) and the Halloween-time Fetish & Fantasy Ball is infamous.
In December, you can get into the holiday spirit by visiting a chocolate factory, skating at the rooftop Cosmopolitan ice rink, sipping holiday-themed cocktails, and taking in seasonal light displays throughout the Strip.
Avoid New Year’s, however. The parties are great but prices are seriously inflated.
Pro Tip You can get great deals if you visit in early December—just avoid the National Finals Rodeo events. And be aware that most hotels close their outdoor pools between October and February.

Off-season: July and August

The good: Lower prices, fewer people
The bad: Extreme outdoor temperatures, fewer events
The weather: Mid-70s to 105+
Summer can be sweltering in Las Vegas, especially in August. Visitors will find smaller crowdsand less entertainment—during these months. But summer can be a great time to visit Vegas if you’re more interested in a straightforward vacation than special events.
Focus your summer visit on casinos and other indoor attractions to survive the desert sun.
Our top three tips for Vegas in the summer: 1) Book a hotel with a pool, 2) Pack a jacket for the air-conditioned casinos, and 3) Buy an $8 all-day bus pass for the Deuce, which runs 24/7 up and down the Strip.
Start at the
Bellagio Conservatory
and Botanical Garden. Don’t skip the Bellagio buffet and the Bellagio fountains show. The Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace is worth a stop, too.
The Mandalay Bay aquarium is the perfect place to escape the heat, with a man-made beach, sharks, and underwater tunnels. At the three-floor
Mob Museum
, you can sip on Prohibition-era cocktails and check out exhibits on organized crime.
Cirque du Soleil and the Blue Man Group have shows year-round—just book your tickets ahead.
Visitors in July can enjoy an epic Independence Day show at Caesars Palace. July also hosts the NBA Summer League. In August, there’s the
Vegas Tejano
Music Week, DEF CON, and MAGIC.
Pro Tip Pickpockets are active in every season in Las Vegas. Stay hydrated, drink responsibly, and keep your (credit) cards close to discourage theft.

Shoulder season: May to June, September and November

The good: Enjoyable weather, good prices
The bad: Chance of rain, average crowds
The weather: mid-60s to 100
There’s never a slow season in Vegas, but shoulder season is the perfect balance of smaller crowds and exciting activities.
In May, you can enjoy the free
Fremont Street Experience
Concerts in a huge outdoor shopping mall. There’s also the famous Electric Daisy Carnival with installations, live music, and a campground on site.
Foodies should plan their visit in June to take advantage of Restaurant Week, a charity event when top restaurants offer set prices to benefit a local food bank.
In autumn, events pick back up again. The
iHeartRadio Music Festival
in September has two stages with major headlines. The Motor Trend International Auto Show is a globally recognized event.
November is known for the
Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival
and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, which completely shuts down the Strip. Thanksgiving Day in Vegas is worth doing at least once, as every buffet offers an epic feast.
These months are perfect for hiking. The best nearby spots are Mt. Charleston, the Valley of Fire, and
Red Rock Canyon
. If you prefer sweat-free views, book a ticket on the LINQ observation wheel where you can spend half an hour at 550 feet overlooking the city.
Pro Tip To get the best buffet experience, go just before lunch service switches to dinner. This guarantees the freshest food and shortest lines.

The cheapest time to travel to Las Vegas

If money is your top concern, plan your Las Vegas trip for July or August. You’ll have to suffer through scorching daytime temperatures, but you’ll save money and beat the crowds.
You can find plenty of great deals in shoulder season, too. June and September offer plenty of activities in far-friendlier temperatures.
