Would it help if I had my Kia Soul lowered?

My parents just got me a graduation gift. It’s a Kia Soul. I don’t know a lot about cars, but this seems a little bit slow to me. A friend from school suggested I get my Kia Soul lowered. What does that mean, and would it help my car be faster?

To lower a car means to put it on lower springs, or to lower the suspension, so the car sits lower to the ground. In some cars, this improves aerodynamics by reducing drag, and lowers the center of gravity so it handles better in corners. But this rarely applies to street cars like the
Kia Soul
, especially in an urban environment.
In the real world, a lowered car can be bumpy, uncomfortable, and even downright miserable. It also makes your tires, brakes, steering components, and suspension wear down a lot faster.
Another big downside to consider is that lowering your car usually results in a big hike in your
car insurance
premiums. But if you’re really set on having your Kia Soul lowered, you could offset those prices using the
