Will the tow truck driver give me a ride?

If my car breaks down, can I catch a lift home with the tow truck?

This used to be an easy question to answer, as the answer was usually yes. It has always been up to the tow company or the driver your
towing coverage
contracted to make that decision, but the answer now has become increasingly complicated.
Even before Covid entered our lives, the liability risk to a tow truck driver started to become too great for them to have a customer in their truck.
I would err on the side of caution and assume that the driver or company would decline to take a passenger due to safety and liability reasons. You can always ask, though. He or she will probably wait with you for your Uber or Lyft if you are concerned about being alone.
You can also call your roadside assistance company to see if they offer transportation assistance in the event of a towing. If you don’t have a roadside assistance membership you can get one through the
Jerry
app. Jerry doesn’t just help you save on
car insurance
, our roadside assistance pays for an Uber if you require a tow.
