Will State Farm drop me for a DUI?

I’ve been with State Farm for car insurance for the past few years and have had a great rate, but recently I was hit with a DUI after a night out with some friends. I’m worried about what it will do to my insurance. Or will State Farm drop me altogether?

Drinking and driving are a big no—it’s dangerous for you and other drivers on the road! Some auto insurers may drop customers after a DUI if the insurer considers you to be an
at-risk driver
. Luckily, each insurance provider uses a different system for calculating risk, and
State Farm
will not drop you after a
DUI
conviction.
Some insurance companies will drop drivers with a DUI or other serious offenses on their record because it becomes significantly riskier for the insurer. However, some states prevent insurers from dropping a customer mid-policy, so they must wait until the policy ends to decide whether or not to renew you.
That said, State Farm operates a bit differently—they will still insure you with a DUI on your record, but they will
file an SR-22
or FR-44 form with the driver’s state after a conviction, if necessary. On top of that, a
DUI affects your car insurance rates
. On average, drivers with a DUI pay 213% more for a State Farm policy than drivers with a
clean driving record
. After three to five years, your rates may be reduced.
But remember that if you have a DUI and other significant risk factors on your record, State Farm may still drop you—it depends on the circumstances.
