Will renters insurance cover moving damage?

I’m preparing to move to a new apartment a couple of hours away. I’m worried my belongings might get damaged along the way. Will my renters insurance cover anything damaged during the move?

Moving can undoubtedly be stressful, but I hope you’re excited!
Your
renters insurance
 will cover moving damage if a covered peril causes the damage. For example, if the moving truck was stolen with your personal belongings inside.
However, if movers damage your items or you forget to lock the truck, and someone steals your personal belongings, your renters insurance wouldn’t cover the damage.
That said, if you’re planning to use a moving company, many have liability policies in place to protect your items from damage. You should also contact your insurance company to see if they can offer any assistance. Insurers and policies differ, so it certainly doesn’t hurt to ask.
If you want peace of mind knowing your belongings are covered while moving, you could purchase moving insurance and should compare quotes from multiple providers to find the best rate.
